At the moment I'm not walking a lot, as it's the holidays and so I'm not walking to work (although I went for a 15-mile walk in the woods the other day), but when I'm working, I walk between 3 and 6 miles a day, Monday to Friday. At the weekends I walk about 2 miles a day, and an occasional 15-mile walk.

    Thanks for all the posts.

Going to set myself a goal of 50 miles a month (with a few thrown in for the end of August).

That's an aim of 220 miles until Dec 31st this year.

Done 7 so far (since Friday).

would like to run...because of bad feet I can't so I walk about 3mile at a brisk pace every other day. It's working fine for me. Also for anybody who doesn't know you can use google earth to map out your walk and tell you how many miles you will be doing and then you can store it.

Hey, I have bad feet too (rheumatoid arthritis). There's no way I can run but walking I can do most of the time. My ambition is to find shoes that allow me to do Zumba and DANCE !

You can get special trainers - they stick you on a treadmill and get you trainers to work with your feet, so you don't suffer from aches and pains. Quite pricey though (well, £100 - $160 US - $155 Canadian).

"Special" trainers don't work for me, my feet are VERY complicated. The only comfy shoes I have are flexible clogs. Waiting to try MBTs out in the specialist footwear shop, but they're really expensive.

Another suggestion: get waterproofs, really good ones, and get outside whatever the weather. It's good for you! I realise I am probably a bit freakish in that I don't mind heavy rain, cold, wind at all. I'm more likely to complain when it's sunny!

I walk /stand / move every day and it all gets recorded by my nike fuel band. I make sure I hit a minimum of 3000 Nike fuel credits a day, with weekends and extra long walks on weekends or when I can. I do maybe 10-15 minutes of yoga a day. That's like a minimum of 2 miles per day, but I generally average about 18 miles a week. (I got the nike fuel band because it's a bracelet, I washed far too many pedometers to attempt a fitbit, but my husband has one he loves, and the fitbit has a lot more features).

So my calorie calculator on MFP is set to sedentary, because my job requires 6-8 hours a day behind a desk. I live in Houston, so I end up walking the tunnels downtown or the Galleria mall due to weather. I take about 2-4 walk breaks a day at work. If I am not taking a client to lunch, I walk to lunch for 20 minutes, eat for 20 minutes, walk back to work for 20 minutes.

Walking counts, and I lost 40 pounds just walking and some very light yoga. I am maintaining well. But do admit to avoiding bread, pasta, rice and potatoes like crazy.

I am totally in love with my shape up shoes..I know others here will tell hell stories of them. For me they have made a HUGE difference. I can brisk walk the 3 miles and my feet haven't hurt since day 1 of wearing them. I was stupid and headed right out the door the first day with them...came home, nothing hurt, no blisters NOTHING. I LOVE LOVE THEM...and I have signed up for a zumba class. I want to dance so bad..I just figure when parts come I know my toes and feet can't handle I'll make a move up :) It's good to meet you!!

    Hi Punkmom (cool name btw),

Yes, apart from the obvious 'boobs all over the damn place' thing, I have a ****y toe, which gives me jip after a while.

thank you :) and LOL oh yeah I don't even want to know what would be flinging around if I took off in a sprint. nobody needs to see that ;) Plus I used to sprain my ankles all the time as a kid ( I have always had freakishly small ankles and wrists)...and I was way heavier in high school than even now...and those poor little ankles couldn't take me on a run. I could see being almost 50 and falling down and spraining an ankle or worse yet busting a hip which at least I didn't have to worry about back then ;)
