I'm not the best runner etc so I try and do couch to 5k on the treadmill I usually last around 20minutes: 5minute warm up 15 interval jogging and walking. I have the incline at 5% when warming up at a speed of 4.5-5.0 (depends how I feel). Then I go 1% and 4.5 walking and 7.0 jogging. This is purely determined on the individual

I then do elliptical trainer/x trainer. For around 10-20minutes at level 5. Then resistance and core etc etc

It's really based on your abilities and energy level :)

Good luck and Gratz on joining the gym it really does work! :D

Are you talking resistance machines, or cardio machines?

If you are talking about weight training machines, you should really focus more on repetitions than time.

Example: try doing 3 sets of 15 repetitions with 30 second rest periods between sets, or 4 sets of 10 repetitions. You will get much better results and form a nice balanced, uniformed routine this way.

Also, don't be afraid or picking up the free weights (dumbells/barbells) from time to time as well. While machines are good, especially for beginners, and for isolating certain muscles very well; free weights will incorporate more muscle work from your overall body and help tone you up even quicker.

    Good luck!

3-5 sets depending on warmup and excercise. 5-10 minutes, with squat rack (where I do squats and deadlifts) taking the most time.

I do a required 20 minutes cardio...Then on the resistance machines I do only as much time as it takes to complete my required repetitions.

Try not to worry about the time you spend on each machine. Focus on form and completing your exercise / sets / reps safely and properly.

For cardio I would suggest between 15-30 minutes moderate cardio.

All of the above depend on your goals and what you're looking to achieve. Could you provide more detail? Also, let us know how your gym induction and first sessions go......good luck!
  • It totally depends upon your fitness, so there's no way to really say based on no knowledge of what you can do. For example, when I started in early June doing treadmill, i was lucky to get through 20 minutes at 3.0 and no incline. Now I do 45 mins at 3.4....but I'm sure all the runners think that is a crawl. For me, it's a victory. It's all about your abilities. Don't compare yourself to anyone else, just try them out and see what you can do. Good luck!

I'm on the treadmill for half an hour. The weight machines? However long it takes to do my sets :)

Don't worry about time. Get a plan together and do what you have to do m

Zero. I spend close to an hour with a barbell and a few minutes with calf presses, dip station, chinup bar.

Oh, and at home a few minutes with ab wheel, heavy grippers, and rubber bands (forearm extensors)
