When people say the abbreviated form of something when the actual word or phrase has the same number of syllables. Like saying "o-m-g" when it's not any shorter. Or saying stfu as "ste-foo."

"I been" or "'I be" instead of "I've been"

"for a minute" as in "Girl, that man been gone for a minute" meaning a while or a longer period of time. A minute makes it sound short.

    "My bad"... pretty awful

first time I ever heard the minute thing, I really got confused. A guy said he had been working there for a minute, then got mad when I treated him like a new employee.

Anything to do with the following:
    Swag
    Yolo
    Irregardless
Saying the letters of commonly used chat slang individually
    Cray cray
    Dat
    Dawg
    FYI
    Retarded
    Baby momma
    Baby daddy
Big boned (i've seen you x-rays your bones look fine)
    fo sho (for sure)

I'm very guilty of using "country" expressions such as "warsh (wash) and ya'll"

I guess I hate words a lot more then the expressions most people use.

My new favorite: "We're going to need a bigger *kitten* to handle all this ****" I use it all the time now.

Also...words shortened for the sake of trendiness...like "Oh she's just jelly" (as in jealous) and girls adding in the word "so" unnecessarily like "are you SOOOO excited?!"

"jelly" is new to me. will have to use that! : )

"You can't have your cake and eat it too," well, what the hell am I getting the cake for if I can't eat it? That's like saying you can buy a new car but you can't drive it.

"Na'mean?" No. Stop it. Especially if you're saying it like that, and you all know what I'm talking about. It makes me want to rip out someones vocal chords and bury them in a pit of sand.

I see so many people on facebook find stupid ways to say "Happy Birthday". I'm good with "Happy B-day" or sentences, such as "Hope you're having a great birthday!" or "Happy 21st!"

    Those are all good.

But when people say "Happppps to the birthdayyyyizzle" I'm like WTF are you saying!? Happs to the Birthday!? Drives. Me. Insane. :explode:

"Going forward" ...I could puke over that self-important blurb. Also, "....My passion is________" Please don't use the word passion like that, please.

My boss says this all the time, and "Ask the question" Me and my boyfriend had a conversation about this yesterday, all the things we hate our bosses saying.

"I seen it". Makes my hand twitch and want to smack someone.

Oh yea. It is used a lot where I come from. Drives me nuts. My daughter used to use it, until I would yell. YOU SAW IT, YOU DIDN'T SEEN IT. Got on her nerves. Now she corrects others. My work here is done.

Also, "He turned round to me...." " I turned round to him..."

Wonder if it's a geographical thing...I swear I hear it all over here in the South.

Yep its a georgraphical thing. I live in the mid atlantic region. Its an epidemic here.

Whilst I am in the mood I hate all people that use 'text talk'. Such as gr8 and use 'no' instead of 'know' because it's quicker. Why is everyone in such a rush? I actually won't reply to anyone who uses text talk. In the old days when text had a character restriction of about 60 characters you could understand people using 'R' and 'U' occasionally but there is no need anymore so STOP IT.

'Basically' or 'At the end of the day' or 'like' 'touch base' (arggg!!) ' or ' If I'm honest' (cos you're not usually?).

Lots of people start a sentence with 'so'. Seems weird to me.

"I didn't do it on purpose."

Okay, then it was reckless or careless; if it was on purpose, you should be in jail or a mental institution.

I hate when people use the word "ignorant" to mean "rude."

    "But I was just ___________"

My kids use it all the time and I also hear adults doing it too. Its an excuse, plain and simple, you were caught doing something you probably shouldn't be doing. It actually reminds me of what criminals say during events like the genocides... "But I was just killing ____"

"I could care less." Then apparently, you must care. Or do you mean you COULDN'T care less?

I have always wondered about this.

If you are able to care less than you already care, then you must already care even the smallest amount.

"On the ground". --reporters use this all the time. "John King is on the ground in CO." As opposed to what? Floating in the air above the fray? That drives me nuts.

"Fixed income"--"Seniors live on a fixed income." Oh, that's too bad (sarcasm). In my mind that means they're guaranteed an income. Unlike the rest of us, whose jobs may be eliminated at any time due to a lousy economy or the whims of someone higher up.

"Could care less"--Other posters have said this, too. It should be "I could not care less" otherwise you're admitting it bothers you.

Not a phrase, but I dislike it when people use "there" instead of "their" or "your" instead of "you're".

I guess I'm kind of snippy this morning! :)

I work in an urgent care and a lab, so we pretty much have a bingo going of all the phrases.

"Do I put my name here or the patient's name?"

I have *insert self diagnosis with a long medical term* and I need you to give me *insert self-prescribed treatment*

*Large yellow signs and arrows with candy in front of it "Sign in here"* "Are you ever going to call me? I didn't know I needed to sign in"

"Does it cost money to come here?"

"I know you can't give me medical advice over the phone but..."

"I know there are 20 patients and 1 nurse and doctor at the moment, but this can't wait..."

"My condition is more serious than that person's. Can you put me in the front of the line?"

*patient brings in 3 requisitions with 25 tests...after 5 minutes...*
Patient: There are other people who got here after me and were called first. When am I going to be called?
Me: You had a lot of tests to prepare. It is taking the prep team some time.
Patient: *exasperated sigh* Can you check how long it is going to be please? I may have to go somewhere else.
Me: Ok...*checks back for 5 more minutes. no requisition anywhere. patient was already called back*
This happens about 10-20 times a day

    "I'm in the system"

"I'm here once a month. I don't understand why you have to have my photo ID every time."

I have always wondered about this.

I think David Mitchell puts it best in this video:

    made me laugh anyway!

“real women have curves” - um, no. real women come in all shapes and sizes. Sorry, but this is something that fat women say to make themselves feel better, I think. It pisses me off. Also, thin women can have curves too. And fat women can be shapeless. AGHHHH this one just annoys me to no end.

Not really an expression per se, but “I thought it would be more like a hamster” – common thing I hear when people are dumping their pet ferrets with me because they don’t want them anymore. Oh really, you thought a medium sized carnivore that retails for over $100 would be “the same” as a $10 vegetable eating rodent? Really? It never occurred to you to pick up a book and learn something about the animal before you bought him???

Actually there are a number of excuses people give when they are dumping their pets that annoy me but this is not the thread for those.
