I'm honestly shocked no one came in this thread shouting "RASPBERRY KETONES" and "SUGAR FREE IS BAD CUZ DR. OZ SAID".

    Seriously disappointed.

When I was a kid, I saw the commercial for a Vortex football that whistled. John Elway threw the Vortex over 100 yards in the commercial--a mighty feat for an NFL quarterback, but the toy was built to be aerodynamically successful.

Even at fourteen, I could get over fifty yards when I threw that thing. My Dad could throw it almost seventy. It sure was a fun toy.

But my friend and I, ever the imaginative mind, attempted to figure out how far a whistling Vortex football could actually be thrown. We built a mechanical catapult that would emulate the throwing motion of an NFL quarterback [recording the commercial on VHS, we actually copied Elway's motion]. No matter how tightly we winched the ballista, we could only get the Vortex to fly about 85 yards.

I wrote a letter to Vortex explaining that I'd be interested to see actual footage of Elway throwing the Vortex 100 yards and included a recording of our makeshift cannon. Vortex never responded.

But I did not write a letter to the Denver Broncos organization demanding that John Elway be released for peddling a faulty product.

Honestly, they have to renew their medical licenses, I think annually, if they are continuing practice.

Unfortunately, I think Dr. Oz still sees patients, and to the best of my knowledge, renewing the license just means that they have to pay a fee and attend some 'qualifiable' conferences (often provided by Big Pharma).

it's a shame. I feel it's so irresponsible of these people. And kind of cruel.

Because TV docs peddling crappy medical advice and John Elway peddling a crappy football is totes the same thing.

    Righty oh.

Write your congressman! Demand stricter requirements for medical licensing. Ask him/her to require the docs to sign some sort of morality clause when working with commercial endorsements... or something like that.

Actually, I work for myself now buying up patents and shutting down engineering firms. I am anti-progress.
