I do not particularly like doctors

If I have a broken bone, sure... set it... done.

If I have a bad cut/laceration, sure... stitich it up... done.

If I get bit by poisonous snake or the like, sure... pump it out of me, give me the anti-whatever... done.

Other than that... it's an art, not a science, right? Human will trumps it all. Master of my domain.

I hear people saying all the time "I went to the doctor"; " you SHOULD go to the doctor", "my doctor said...", "have you been do the doctor?", "if that's what your doctor said".

After 10 minutes with someone, you trust everything they say, when they know nothing about who you are or how you live your life or anything? (rhetorical)

I'm just saying, that I... ME... I... AM responsible for my body. I know it better than anyone else if I just pay attention to it.

Just a short rant

Yeah I agree, I think people trust their doctors' recommendations too much in certain cases.

Doctors are good but they aren't God. I don't mind doctors for somethings but I am one who prefers a natural remedy to medication. I have inflammed joints and they wanted to put me on a prescription but by accident I discovered vitamin B6 took care of my problem. So basically if I can find a more natural remedy I plan to use that over a drug. But I do know doctors save lives and are awesome in those areas it's just in the every day areas they give out too much medication. Just my opinion anyhow

    yep. too generic for me.

I prefer the holistic approach... paying attention to my whole body.

Doctors are better educated than you in matters of medicine. Their vast knowledge and experience as well as ability to get the most up to date information regarding medicine and health far exceeds your own.

You are NOT a special snow flake. Your muscles are not made of anything different. Your bones are not made of anything different. Your chemical composition is nearly identical to 7,000,000,000 other people in the world.

If you believe your mind can fix a severed limb, go right on ahead and believe that.

Otherwise, you are INCREDIBLY ignorant to assume you are smarter than any one of them.
  • i hate to say it but we arent all unique like our parents told us. The thousands of cases doctors study give them a much better idea of whats going on with our bodies than we do....Even if you google it. I Agree with DanaDark. Even if the Doc has told you something you dont like.

I hate Doctor's also. That is why it took me so long to go when I was so sick last year. Various life threatening infections, surgery, contagious intestinal bacteria caused by high doses of antibiotics(2x's), and a month in the hospital lead to 8 months of recovery. I almost died numerous times. I lost most of my hair.

Moral of the story, Doctor's are good. Going to the Dr. is good.

I understand where you are coming from, just be careful. DON'T do what i did.:flowerforyou:

I'm with you on this.... I don't go to doctor's anymore.

They took my gallbladder out, said it was bad.... then a month later said the real problem was something completely different.

    MONEY HUNGRY. nuff said.

Of course I am special. I am me... INCREDIBLY.

As far as knowing what my body has been thru and what it is doing and how I feel... of course I know better. It is me.
  • Hear hear!

It astonishes me how many issues I am supposed to take to my doctor. He is there to give me pills when I am sick, he is not there to be my dietician, workout adviser, therapist or life coach - that is my ****, not his!

I also find it slightly odd that the very first advice anyone is given when considering dieting or losing weight is to go and see their doctor - why? I don't go and see him when I work long hours and miss dinner, why would I need to go and see him if I plan on eating museli rather than crunchy nut cornflakes?! Likewise, unless you are in seriously bad shape, you do not need to go and see your doctor to get 'permission' to exercise. I didn't go and see him when I decided to buy a bike, I didn't go and see him when I met my boyfriend and started going on hill walks, why would I go and see him just because I decide to take up running??!

We live in a society where people are actually afraid to do the things that their body is, quite naturally, meant to do. We run to the experts to tell us how to live our lives instead of taking responsibility for our own decisions. Your doctor is a busy person, they do not need to be bothered for every tiny little decision. You are a free human being with a wealth of power and agency in your own hands - enjoy it! :-)

  • ... and I'm not saying all doctor's are BAD and that they are of no use.

I did say I would and do go to a doctor for certain things. So it is rare that I go.

In general, doctor's treat the affect not the cause. It takes more than 10 minutes with a person to know the cause.

I would rather be rid of the "problem" and not just put a band-aid over it and pop pills.

Of course, if I'm dreadfully sick for a month, I would seek help. Even with that, I will trust my instincts and judgment as well. I am responsible for me and I know better than anyone what I've been putting into my body and what I've been doing with it.

And the big factor is... we are more than bones, muscle, and tissue, much more.

    YES.... YES.... YES...

..and it made me laugh.... all so true.

    And raises a good question...

Who actually went to the doctor and "asked permission" to lose weight and/or exercise?

    I know I didn't.
