I used eHarmony for 6 months, and was pretty unimpressed with the matches they sent me. I'm tempted to try it again now that I can list myself as "average" instead of "a few extra pounds". Debating whether or not it is worth it to spend another $180 and potentially have the same result as the last time.

Sad as it is, glad I'm not alone on the whole Eharmony thing.

I filled out my E-Harmony survey and they matched me up with my wife.

I went home that night and never mentioned that I was looking on E-Harmony and she never brought it up either. I noticed her Profile was deleted a couple weeks later, so I deleted mine. I guess we're stuck with eath other.

I offered to be a match for the un-matched. They said they would be better off alone! :grumble:
  • True story:

I once sat down and filled out an E-Harmony dating profile thing, with their bajillion question survey. My results came back that I was one of the 10% of the world that is unmatchable with anyone. So, there's that.

Really?? Wow. I want to try that just to see because I bet I would get the same result. I got damned lucky finding another member of that 10%; we are a couple of weirdos. Someday you might find yours too

I got the "I'm sorry we have no one compatible for you" response. So I tried again and totally lied about what I liked and changed everything.

    Got another similar response...............gah!

Yay! I'm not the only reject!

I got that, too. LOL Personally, I don't think any of the dating sites are all that effective. In my experience, very few of the people on there actually end up in a long term relationship.

    Yeah, I failed too. :(

What the hell? I just dont get it...

why not?!?! lol I think the fact that i've been single since my sons dad and I split up before I found out I was pregnant speaks volumes. I'm doing SOMETHING wrong. :\

Bitty, I was single for almost 3 years after I left Roo's dad! In due time... you need someone to share your awesome with.

I didn't know that. Thank God I stayed away from that site in my internet dating days then. Although they wouldn't have wanted me anyway :)

I think the whole "online dating" thing is a scam for the people who created the site. They charge an ungodly amount of money, and, for most people, it doesn't work. Not worth it in my opinion.

I got that too! It made me so mad after filling out their gazillion question profile crap. Then, when the finally DID give me a supposed match, they lived several STATES away. When one of my top priorities was that they live nearby. I guess I'm not fit for anyone in my state... Sigh... Whatever anyway. I've got a man now. lol But it was highly irritating at the time.

LUCKILY- I tried it on a 'free' weekend. I would have been mad otherwise. This way- I was only semi- hurt.

I met my husband on EHarmony - it was the best thing I ever did. We've been married for a year and a half and we still can't believe how lucky we are!

ahhh, well then I'd totally fail too.

But at the time I did it, I listed myself as Christian (which I am) and that a mate's religion-preference was important to me, like very important... And I still got the "you're a loser and no one wants you" response. :grumble:

I had a friend try it that was definitely Christian, not hardcore but firm believer/active in church, but he got rejected too so it can't be just that.
They also manage to find plenty of matches for non-religious people. Can't speak for Athiests, though. I tried the E-Harmony thing once...maybe I just didn't have the right attitude, but it felt like so much more work than fun. You have to sort through and judge people based on how they answer your questions (while they're doing the same to you, of course), and then when you finally meet them in person, they're nothing like you thought. Eh. I quit when I realized I was WAY more excited about going to the movies with my friends than I was about going on another first date. But I know several couples who met on E-Harmony and have great marriages.

ETA: And just because I've already been in one debate on this subject this week -- to clarify (so as not to derail the thread), non-religious does not mean athiest. Atheism is the active disbelief in the existence of gods or higher powers. One can believe in God outside the construct of religion (hence, non-religious).
