Carbs/sugars from fruits/veggies

I know they get counted into your daily stats but do you guys negate carbs/sugars from fruits and veggies? My sugar and carbs keep going over because of them?

a carb is a carb and sugar is sugar to mfp. Even if they're good carbs and good sugars, too much is still too much.0

Obviously MFP counts them, but I don't. Not really, anyway. I am working hard to cut down (and eventually out) breads, pasta, rice, potatoes, that kind of stuff. But I won't limit my vegetables no matter what, and as long as I'm not going crazy with fruit, then I don't worry about that either.
I think it just comes down to what works for each individual, and what each person prefers.0 -
Are you going over on your total calories? Are you diabetic?
If the answer to both questions is no don't worry about it. (If you are worried about the numbers focus more on vegetables than fruits and replace a serving of fruit with berries)0 -

Yeah im not going over in calories nor am I diabetic. I actually have a tough time getting to my calories. I just found this:
The only bad carbohydrates are additives like sucrose, which is table sugar, or high -fructose corn syrup, a slightly less expensive sweetener similar to sucrose. The nature of all other carbohydrates depends on the foods in which they occur as well as how those foods are prepared. The best way to ensure you are eating good carbohydrates is to consume them naturally from nutritious foods.

Im always over because of them too.. I just dont count them.. I wish there was an option for it not to count.. You need your complex carbs.. and in my opinion the sugar from fruit doesnt count, unless you sensitive to sugar then thats a different story.0

I'm over on sugar EVERY day cuz of the fruits I eat! But I'm steadily/consistently losing weight so I doesn't matter to me0

I have the same worry, all I eat is fruit and veg really but I'm afraid I do go over on the fruit part. Going to swap one piece of fruit for berries and another piece of fruit to cherry tomatoes or baby carrot but will still have 2-3 fruits a day0

I have recently cut down on carbs. Mostly "bad" carbs. Fruit has way too many benefits to cut out, but I have cut down on the amount. Usually one piece of fruit a day.0

I stick to the low carb fruits (berries) and veggies, but I was diabetic and don't ever want to go near that again. Once in a while for an ear of corn or other high carbs. Everything in moderation.0

You found your answer. If your source of carbs/sugars is coming primarily from fresh produce, don't worry about going over. Your body metabolizes those and they won't be left behind as fat.0 -

Yeah negate might have been the wrong word. I meant not worry about them as much as say carbs in a cookie or something like that. Moderation is the key I understand that, but when your trying to eat fruit rather then a piece of candy or something and the sugars/carbs are similar it was making me wonder if it was possible to seperate simple sugars from complex sugars.

I've lowered my fruit intake a little to cut back on the sugars, which has helped with appetite control a bit. Sugar is sugar, and you can easily overdo it. I go over my MFP sugar goals daily, but I've reduced the amount that I go over by, and I try to make sure that as much as possible of it is "natural" sugar - in other words, sugar that is still attached to the fibers it formed on, rather than separated and concentrated.
The important thing, though, is that unprocessed fruits and vegetables come with beneficial things like micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals) and fiber. So, while most fruits and many vegetables come with sugars, it's OK to eat them in decent quantities unless you have some specific sensitivity to sugar (diabetes, etc).
But for maximum benefit, you really want to be eating the fruits and veggies as whole as possible - don't drink apple juice and think you are getting the same benefit as an apple, for example, because apples are full of fiber and nutrients that will never make it into the juice. You're basically drinking sugar water with some vitamin c.0 -
my percentages are guidelines. I was going over my sugars until I adjusted my sugar limit. I don't worry too much if I have a day with a higher than average carb/sugar count. Same goes with proteins/fats.0

Just, fyi, Cherry Tomatoes are still technically a fruit. (though they are delicious!)0 -
I find the sugar tracking here on MFP to be useless unless you need to track fruit sugars too because it doesn't differentiate - an apple and a banana will put me over, and I try to eat at least two fruits and 2-3 veggies a day. Unless a doctor tells you to track fruit sugars I just don't see a point - the only sugars I watch are sugar-sugars, from junk food and candies and such.
As for carbs I do track them I guess because I watch my carb numbers, but I don't care much if I go over them. I don't eat a lot of breads and pastas and such so I do watch my carbs on days I eat those but otherwise, meh.0 -
My weight stalled until I got my carbs in check so atleast for me it does matter! I do 40% carbs and rarely go over. I really limit fruit to a few berries or grapes but I eat tonnes of vegetables and salad. find it much harder to go over carbs with these than fruit. I don't really eat bread but still have a bit of pasta and rice. I stick to 50g of sugar or less, find this pretty easy.to do limiting fruit. may have to reduce it in future but for now its working... so basically I'd max out on vegetables and salad and limit the fruit. find lower sugar yogurt etc.

I was wondering the same thing. I do eat a lot of fruit (think 1-2 pound of different fruit/day), but I never go over my allowed calories. I do go over the sugar intake.... big time. I dont get too stressed about it though because I dont eat any white carbs at all (nothing with refined sugar or flour, and lately not even whole wheat... so no pasta, no bread, no potatoes, no breakfast cereals, no granola, if it is sweetened, etc). I think as long as you dont go over the calories and wash your teeth thoroughly after eating them it's fine. When winter comes, I'll be having a really tough time, though, since most fruit will be out of season.0

Fructose is not healthy sugar (it's actually one of the worst you can ingest) and should be limited as much as possible. That does not mean don't eat fruit, but try and consume fruits with lower amount like berries as much as possible. (or at least limit the fruits that are very high in fructose like bananas) Avoid fructose that comes from any source other than fruit like the plague. (which it might as well be) Overall the benefits of fruit far outweight the bad, so as long as you don't go overboard it's fine.0

As far as I'm concerned you can eat fruits and veggies until your face falls off > those sugar calories don't "stick" to your ribs/waist/tush like the dble complex ones do. I don't count them on MFP either

I've been over on my sugar because of the amount of fruit I eat every day since I joined MFP and started losing this weight nearly 6 months ago. It hasn't done me any harm. I stopped looking at all the stuff MFP details apart from calories after about a month.0

Most, if not all, of my carbs come from fruits/veggies. I never eat any fruit past 3:00PM so that my body can process the sugars.0

Ultimately all sugars are converted to glucose. It does not matter if the sugar is fruit sugar (fructose), lactose, maltose, etc. because your body digests sugar in a very specific way: Glucose travels through the blood stream to body cells to provide energy or is stored for future use.
However, the sugar from MOST fruits and vegetables tends to be healthier because they do not make your blood sugar spike the same way high GI foods do (white breads, pretzels, donuts, rice, etc). While almost all vegetables have a low GI, you should be limiting your consumption of high GI fruits (mango, bananas, raisins, papaya, figs, pineapple). High GI foods increase blood glucose levels very quickly, triggering the release of insulin....and what do we know about insulin? Too much of it promotes the storage of fat.
So bottom line: When you eat products high in sugar, you can experience rapid weight gain and elevated triglyceride levels. Just pay attention to GI content. Fruits and vegetables are very nutritious but just remember, too much of anything is a bad thing. At the end of the day, a carb is a carb.....so no, you cannot negate them.0 -
Thanks so much for this post! I was wondering the exact same thing since I noticed that I go over my daily sugar goal every day. Just 0.5 cup of blueberries has around 7g of sugar. So I def. need to limit the fruits I eat during the day, and the ones I eat as a snack after dinner.0

I prefer that my carbs come from fruits and veggies rather than bread, pasta, chips, cookies, or candies. I still don't like to go over, but if I must I would rather it be because I ate a bowl of real strawberries and not a bowl of strawberry ice cream.0

Some fruits are loaded with sugar so you can't just eat all you want. Berries are better for you but should still be taken in moderation. When in doubt, look it up online. For Example... I LOVE Mangos; but one Mango has over 30g of sugar. I could eat 2 servings of peanut butter cup ice cream and take in that same amount of sugar.0
