So my boys are finally old enough (16, 16, and 11) to see most of the awesome movies that we got to see back in the good old days! We've already done Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Ghostbusters, The Breakfast Club, Amadeus, and The Princess Bride. We don't do horror movies, but other than that, they are willing to watch both comedies and dramas. What other movies should be on the list? Thanks!

(They don't like scary/ horror movies, but I think I should insist that they watch The Sixth Sense, don't you?)0
-
Rain Man, Pretty In Pink, Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, Airplane!, Caddyshack, Stand by Me, Big, Police Academy, Good Morning Vietnam...I think these are some good movies.0

Goonies never say die!!!0
-
The Breakfast Club
The Goonies
Back to the Future
The Princess Bride
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead
Ferris Bullers Day Off
Labyrinth
Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure
Wayne's World
The Little Mermaid
Short Circuit
Flight of the Navigator
Really I could go on for days and days but I'll stop here.0 -
Top Gun and Face/Off! And yes, I think they should definitely watch The Sixth Sense!0
-
Jurassic Park! I was watching it on TV the other day and was like "Dang, this is still a really good/scary movie!" Stands the test of time.
The original three Indiana Jones films are awesome, too.0 -
Can I also add a few good ones?
Drop Dead Fred
Happy Gilmore
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer (not really horror, they'll laugh at how bad it is)0 -
Show them the movie "IT". It's a touching coming of age story about a group of friends who later reunite as adults.0

Bahahahahahaha! GOLD!
If we're going that route, then Carrie is really only about a very sad teenager who decides the rest of her school needs to be warmed up with a good old fire.0 -
Ferris Beuhler's Day Off. Full stop.
Edit: Missed the FBDO reference in the OP. That being out, I'd recommend Weird Science and Real Genius.0 -
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS!!!!!!
Labyrinth
Goonies0 -
back to the future0
-
I read the stand then was appalled by the made for TV version....too many Breakfast Club stars trying to be witty, brave or evil!0
-
Ace Ventura
Back to the future
last boy scout
True Romance
Fifth element
Drunken Master (1978) I cheated!0 -
Weekend at Bernie's ❤
My favorite movie of all time. Stupid funny, you can't take it seriously.
I honestly quote it on a daily basis.0 -
Some great ones are already listed so I won't mention them again, but some others are:
Stand by Me (Edit: Just noticed this one was said, but it's worth repeating)
The Outsiders
Born in East L.A.
Canadian Bacon
Uncle Buck
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Spaceballs
Beetlejuice
Edward Scissorhands
Mermaids
The Addams Family
Election
The English Patient
Good Will Hunting
Joe vs the Volcano
Sheesh, I could go on and on...0 -
Election
While I agree this is a great movie, I would wait on this one. It might be okay for the 16 year olds (if they have seen rated R movies before and you are comfortable with showing them sexual content), but it's definitely NOT okay for a 11 year old. I didn't see Election until I was 16 or 17 I believe.0 -
A Christmas Story0
-
Better Off Dead
''I want my two dollars!!!!!''0 -
Dont forget the princess bride
have fun storming the castle!!0 -
Dirty dancing and Point Break (Patrick Swazey nom nom nom (RIP)).0

No one has mentioned National Lampoon's Vacation yet. Great movie!0
-
Thank you! That should keep us in movies for a little while! I'd forgotten about some of those!0
-
Goonies, Gremlins, Spies Like Us, Fletch, Stripes, Predator.....and Tombstone!!!!!!0
-
The Running Man!
Edit - i've just realised this is to recommend for kids to watch... My bad.

Forgot about Weird Science.....Nice!0
-
A League of Their Own!!! And it just so happens to be on now.0
-
No one's mentioned Say Anything?
Welp, that's my pick. At least for the 16 y.o's.0 -
Oh.
Geeky movies == Win.
So... All of the Star Trek films. Pick of the bunch are Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home.0 -
