Do you ever reach an age ...

when you think I'm too old for all this diet stuff. I've been this way too long to think things are going to change? Well, maybe some people do but not me. Granted, I have started over way too many times but I always have hope and in the current moment think I've really got a shot to be able to wear ANYTHING in my closet. I have four successful weeks under my belt. But yet, I don't see that many older people here saying the same thing ... have you let go of your dreams?

So ... I'm only 31 so I don't think I have reached that age you may be talking about, but let me share my little story here.

I have had bouts with my self over why am I forcing my self to eat this way.. This sucks having to watch what I eat all the time.. I should be able to eat how I want when ever I want... I feel trapped etc...

Truth is.... it was the other way around.. I would have slaved my self to cake and other B.S. that isn't good for my body... If I would of done it right the first time I wouldn't be obese and in the first place...

I had to change my mind set.. For me and this may not work for you but for me food is nothing but fuel for my body. Some people say you can have a relationship with bad food and balance your self out with good food if you learn to do it right. I say forget that, I don't need cake.. Its just crap that only brings fleeting joy any ways..

I find joy in the other things like knowing, I can feel comfortable to put on a swim suit on and take my shirt off in public. I can go out and RUN a mile in under 7 minutes, I have more energy for my kids. The better physic has brought me a better attitude and more positive outlook on life..... I am more willing to get out of the house with my wife instead of wanting to stay in because I was embarrassed about how I looked before..

These are all things that bring true joy to me, and its lasting and life changing.. I do not need to find joy in a bowl of ice cream or a slice of pie.. Will I have some ice cream or pie some time in my life again .. OF COURSE I will but I am more informed, I have seen the other side from Fat to fit, and I know I can make better informed decisions on that piece of pie, and chances are I will just skip it..

Don't give up because when you are back to how you were designed to be, you can live MORE LIFE in just a 24 hour period then you ever could when you were sluggish and over weight...

So it all comes down to weighing the negatives and positives.. Sit down and make a list.. I promise you the positives will be a mile long while the negatives will be all alone ....

So do you want to give up now ?

My husband and I just got married last month. We are 54 and 60 years old. We have both had issues with weight forever. We have also both been successful with weight loss before. As you get older it isn't easy. Your body hangs on to those pounds! I think women have it tougher too! We don't care about being "skinny" anymore. We want to be healthy and live a long, full, productive, healthy life. We would both like to have a long marriage! This website has been very helpful for us to keep track of progress.

You are never too old to look and feel better. There is an almost 60 year old woman in my office who is my role model She works out every day with her husband. She must weigh around 105 (5'3") and wears a size zero or two. She tells me she "eats a lot" but I can tell you that she only eats healthy foods with no sauces. She will make comments like "it has been 30 years since I have had potato chips in my house."

I am 50 and just want to lose some belly fat. So far I'm down 3.5 pounds in 5 days. I'm hoping if I can do this for a month, I'll be down 7-8 pounds (and hopefully, can fit into some additional clothes in my closet.)

My big dream: be able to wear anything in my closet!!!! Good luck. Susan

I admit there are a few goals I have given up on but this has never been one of them. I don't think you ever get too old to want to look and feel good. Hang on to what is really important to you. This is a great place for support and advice.
    Take care and God bless,
    Doni

I don't think I am too old because I still have weight to lose. As with life this is a journey for me and sometimes (a LOT lately) I get side-tracked but then I get back on the trail and go along my merry way. Although my profile shows I have only been on here a short time I actually was on here for about 2 months before I decided to go back to WW and delete my profile. Big mistake for me. But I'm back!!!

    Take care,

Hmm let's see do I want to be healthy and strong or old before my time...that's toughie?!?!?!? You're never too old to live a healthy lifestyle!!!!!! It's not about wearing a bikini anymore or what the scale says. It's the rush of being able to run when they are others my age just vegetating on the couch dreaming of their younger years!!! Going to the gym and lifting weights while all your menopausal friends think you're crazy for doing it!! Running up a flight of stairs and not getting winded. The look of disbelief on peoples faces when you tell them your age! How about the many many health benefits, blood pressure, strong heart, strong bones just to name a few!!! And yes...being able to slip into a pair of stylish jeans and still look good! No Mom jeans allowed!

I'll be 54 soon and I hope to be living healthy and exercising well into my golden years god willing!

I find the older I get, the I harder it is to lose weight. But at the same time it motivates me to keep it off so I don't have to go through it all again. Does that make sense?

Absolutely not, I'm glad I got "clued in" when I did! I want to be as healthy as I can, and finding a program that works is crucial - part of my program is MFP, the support and inspiration is so motivating

There was a time when I was too young for all this diet stuff. In my mid-20's and younger it was really, really hard to stick to a diet and exercise program. My impulse control was poor and I would succumb to peer pressure easily. It was way too easy to sit and watch tv all day and skip working out.

Now that I'm older, it is much easier to implement a new diet and exercise routine. I've had 20 years learning how to buck-up and just get stuff done that I didn't particularly want to do.

I just turned 53, and I don't look at this as a diet.... it's a way for me to be fit, healthy and account for what I eat and how often I exercise. I want to be fit and do everything within my control to stay healthy.... exercise and eating are two things I have complete control over to battle heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetis, all which run in my family....I believe the older you get, the more important it is to do whatever you can to eat healthier and be fit....and with that the weightloss will come, the longer you do it the easier it gets..... (just my 2 cents)

I am getting to old for a diet. what i am doing is a life change, and i will never get to old to for that!
