I am so confused!! carbs vs. calories

I'm really getting discouraged. I've been trying to stick to a low carb program and have purchased pretty much foods that are not fat free, since they are typically higher in carbs. Today's food diary indicates I have a substantial deficit in carbs yet my calories are not at my 1200 goal. I'm having a real hard time balancing the calories, carbs, fats and protein and at this point I don't know which nutritional program to follow - low calorie (which is essentially low fat) or low carb. Can anyone give me some advice before I go crazy??

Open your diary so others can see what you are doing. without the facts can't give any advice. It is best to eat to your caloric goals as set out by MFP. Being under is not a good idea.

Best advice anyone can give you at this time: open your diary.

MFP sets the Carbohydrates goal very high-55%. If you try to get enough protein to preserve your lean muscle mass while dieting, you'll never hit those carbs.

I don't think I have ever hit the MFP carb goal. (Even though I just rejoined, I used MFP faithfully for about 7 months last year).

I aim to get 100-120 grams of protein every day and my carbs just end up about the same.

You should aim to eat calorie allotment with correct amounts of carbs, protein and fats. Adjust your menu accordingly by carefully assessing nutrients. You'll feel better and be healthier for it and then able to make it a lifestyle habit to know what you're eating.
