P90x vs. Insanity

I need to lose weight rather quick. I have both of these can anyone tell me which one I should use to lose weight the quickest?

I lost 27 pounds in 90 days doing P90X. Love the program.

In my opinion, both (or any) strength program is okay, depening how much you put in it. Most importantly, your calories out are bigger than your calories IN. Don't overdo either your exercise or deficit though, that's not healthy (loose skin, malnutrition etc)...

P90x gives you a lot of weight training, and Insanity seems to be high cardio with some resistance training. I did P90x last year and lost about 15 lbs in the 90 days, but lost lots of inches. I am on day 5 of insanity and have lost a couple pounds already. It is a toss up so far.

Along with a healthy diet a combination of the two will get you the quickest weight loss. The high intensity from insanity will burn lots of calories and the weights from p90x will help build muscle (which keeps burning at rest), as well as burn calories. Make sure you do not starve yourself and put your body into starvation mode. Hope this helps!

I also have bothand am planning to do Insanity in October - to lose some weight and then P90X to tone muscle... I will then probably do a hybrid as has already been mentioned - perhaps start a group when you decide to give each other encouragement - Good luck!

I'd highly recommend against doing a P90X/Insanity hybrid right off the bat if you've not completed either program. Either program will get you results but Insanity you need to have a base fitness level of some kind before jumping right in.

I'd personally recommend doing P90X as you'll get strength/resistance training and a good balance of cardio and yoga/stretching to give you a full body workout each week. Plus in P90X they show you how to modify each move for your fitness level. Insanity doesn't show modifications nearly like P90X. Lifting will not bulk you up so don't worry about the lifting part. If you'd like more info send me a friend request/message.

for p90x, do you have to use resistance bands etc? i did p90 and used weights the whole time as didnt have resistance bands?
  • Are these systems worth the price? They both seem to get good reviews.

I only tried out P90x so far, so can't tell about insanity.
I think P90x is worth the price if you can't be bothered to put together your own training plan, and you like being led through the program and being able to see the exercises being done on video.
It helps me with the motivation =)

I'm currently in the 3rd week of P90x, but I only do the strength training discs.
As this is my first real exercise since 2005 or so, I can't be bothered yet to work out everyday for more than an hour ;-)
I opted to do shred in 30 on the days I don't do P90x, as it's a lot shorter and I can do that easily in hotels as I'm typically travelling 2-3 days per week.

I will add the plyo, kenpo, yoga etc P90x stuff once I'm on vacation.
I assume I would get better results in 90 days if I'd follow the P90x according to plan, but I'm in it for the long run, so I don't really care a lot about when I achieve which results. As long as there is progress, I'm fine.

But I have to say, that I really do like the P90x workouts so far, it's challenging and fun!

They are worth the price if you are actually going to do them. If you just buy them and do a workout or two then it is not worth the money.

Either of those programs when followed correctly you can drop approx. 10 pounds per month safely as long as you follow the nutrition guides that come with the programs and don't try to do some fad or starvation diet when dong those programs.

Thank you all so much for the advice! I believe I am now leaning toward doing a hybrid between the two! I will take before and after pics and post them when I finish! Thanks again for all the advice!
