Alli and SlimQuick

I see the commercials for these all of the time... They don't claim to be some miracle pill or anything... just an aid to weight loss.... "They" also stress that the results of their supplements are in conjuntion with diet and exercise...
So, I was wondering, have any of you tried either of these? If so, what's the verdict?

I tried one of the pills years ago (I forget which) and ended up with a really weird VERY sharp pain in my stomach. I ended up getting ultrasounds and everything. They didn't find anything, but I stopped taking them and it went away immediately. So I don't do the pills anymore.
All I know about Alli is it causes leaky, "oily" stool which scares me enough to stay away. I think it's supposed to be OK if you don't eat any fats, but I can't do that.
My suggestion would be to research throughly anything like that - in places other than their own websites Look up each ingredient and what it's really for. It could be just a bunch of vitamins with caffeine (like Dexatrim), or it could be some untested herbal thing. You never know.0 -

Actually I didnt hear...one of my friends used it. Yuck0 -
I know a couple of people that have done or are doing the alli. Your bathroom problems do change, and sometimes not so good. (Blow outs, stomach pains) It does block half of your fat intake. Everyone I know has lost weight, and a pharmacist from church recommends it. I have had my gallbladder out and have IBS so I am iffy on taking it.0

I had been on Alli and it does cause oily uncontrollable leakage in your office chair when you least suspect it.... that is all I am going to say!0

Oh my gosh. like do you still take it? Is it bad enough to continue taking or did you stop..oye. I was thinking about taking it but thats gross.0 -
Oh man, I was actually thinking about going and buying alli today. And I am not spending $40+ and end up with a leak butt, no way. Thank you guys for saving me haha0

I used Slimquick as a supplement. It has a decent blend of good stuff in it. I didn't consider it a diet pill, thogh many people will disagree with that. The pharmacist compared it to some others for me and it was mostly just a blend of supplements that you would find in a multi, wth some exceptions. I don't attribute any actual weigfht loss to it, but I also wouldn't ban it for good.
As for Alli, there are some class action law suits against the company that makes it. It has proven to cause some liver damage. All it does is make the fat you eat "SLIDE" right through you if you eat too much. Its easier and cleaner to just eat less fat in my opinion.

I use Slimquick too. I'm glad to hear there's nothing outrageously bad in it!
I also use it as a supplement, I still eat healthy and exercise. I haven't lost anything while I've been on it but I haven't lost anything in quite awhile...haha.
I do feel less bloated, cravings during TOM are MUCH less severe, and I believe I've lost a few inches here and there. Haven't measured in awhile, but I have pants a size smaller than what I am now and they weren't fitting quite as tight as the last time I tried them on!
Holly, you have a lot of helpful information!0 -
A good friend of mine is doing Alli. She says she has lost weight using it but that's because you have to really watch your fat intake or yes, you might think it's just gas and find a surprise. Ewww! Every since she told me that I have refused to try it.0

You all are really funny, entertaining and educational! :flowerforyou:0

I was on Alli for 3 months - I never had a problem but I was always scared to eat bad. I used it when I first started dieting so I could learn to eat better and scare myself into it. It worked!
Good luck!0 -
How GROSS! Why is it the "only FDA approved" diet pill???0
-
I take Alli and it does help with weight lost, I have not experienced any of the side effects but i hear they do happen only if you eat to much fat in your diet. It kind of keeps you on your toes because if I take it in the morning I know I better not eat anything bad because I might get those gross side effects.
I think my sister tried slim quick she said it doesn't work, one weight loss aid I love is Ripped Fuel 5x fat burner, works great and doesn't have a lot of weird ingredients, they have also been around for years. Another way to speed up weight loss is take a Super B Complex it gives you energy and aids weight loss. Good luck finding something hope i helped.0 -

Someone told me that they THOUGHT it was supposed to help suppress your appetite... But, I really have no idea... No success story yet0 -

So it's the same as the "Taco Bell Drive Thru" diet. :laugh:0 -
I was prescribed Alli (although it was not called that at the time) by my GP a couple of years back.
Let me tell you this, days out are really entertaining, just make sure you take several changes of underwear lol
It's much better (and less smelly) to just watch your fat intake, as all Alli does is punish you for eating fat, get a friend to poke you in the eye everytime you eat fat, this would work just as well.
Glad I was taken off them and would NEVER use them again.
BEWARE!0 -
I took slimquick powder for a metabolism boost and to push hunger away. It worked, but I couldn't sleep at night while taking it. You want to build your metabolism, start working out and keep to it. It will get better and better. If you want to keep hunger away, eat more protein. I drink Special K protein water after breakfast. It helps a lot.0

wow a lot of negative views on Alli. i am a relative clean eater and try to avoid fat BUT there are times when i am craving something like pizza or a roast beef sub (today). i use Alli whenever i want to eat something like this. i dont have any problems with it, occasional cramps but nothing that overly irritating, to me its worth not gaining weight. i think it works great!!0

After reading your post I was a little put off by your comment.... "its worth not gaining the weight" So why not just eat a normal portion and work it into your intake of food? It seems like you use this to "cheat" when this is not about cheating so much as it is about learning to eat correct portions of food. You seem to be in control of your situation but I felt I had to post for those of us who may not be.
Personally doesn’t this seem like it’s not really teaching you how to live healthy and within portion control but more of a way to not face the consequences of eating a lot of terrible food? We are all here because we had past behaviors that were not correct that led us to this place... I want to own what I did wrong correct my action and move forward. My personal thinking about these kinds of pills are to jump start your motivation to get you going... not to be used to erase slip ups in behavior. My two cents.
I’m sorry for using you as an example but I would be remiss if this type of thinking about weight loss was encouraged.0 -
I'm all set. I have learned that diet and exercise work. I don't need pills, particularly pills that cause anal leakage.0

Wow. I have to agree. If you are relatively clean about eating then a slice of pizza or a roastbeef sub on occasion are not going to cause any weight gain. The Alli pill is designed to modify behavior, not help you cheat. I'm sorry to sound harsh, but it concerns me that someone would do that. Alli has been shown to cause liver and kidney damage along with some gastrointestinal problems. The effect of the sub seems far safer than that risk. I actually know someone who used the perscription form in that way (so she could eat bad foods without worring about gaining) She screwed up her metabolism and organs so bad that she was hospitalized. Please be careful. If you crave pizza, eat it and take an extra 30 minute walk or something. Again, not trying to be harsh, just really concerned.0 -
I use slimquick and have since I started here. I take 2 in the am and 2 at lunch time. I feel that it makes me forget that I am hungry when I shouldn't be. I eat 1300 calories a day I exercise 4-6 days a week and I have found that with out it I think about food all day long. I also have tried a lot of other pills that have made me feel jittery and this one doesn't do that to me.
So, I guess for me it's the fact that with out it I think od food all day and so I take it to help me forget about food. Yeah I know expensive therapy but It has helped me drop 57 pounds so I'll take it.0 -
That is EXACTLY how I use Alli and I have never had a problem. I don't take three each day, only one or two and I usually have low fat meals the rest of the day. No gross stuff here.0
