Sweet Potato

I have never made sweet potatoes before. I am not sure if I should roast them or boil them...Any suggestions?

Sometimes I just pierce them with a fork, microwave on medium power for 8-10 minutes, turning it over halfway. Sprinkle liberally with salt and enjoy!0

I hate them, I hate them buttered, sugared and covered in marshmallow. I want to like them but I don't. I was at a baby shower recently and had to do a blind taste test of baby foods and knew immediately which one was sweet potato becaue it was so terrible.
The only tolerable form I've found is Alexia Chipotle Sweet Potato Fries.0 -

You can do about anything with them that you'd do with a normal potato. Just keep in mind that they are quite a bit sweeter (hence the name). I enjoy them mashed or sliced thin and fried in a pan like little chips. Enjoy!0

I love 'em baked, had them as fries at outback also, its good any way you eat it.0

They are pretty good raw. On a normal day I will boil them and make mashed sweet potato and on cheat days I will log them skin on and make fried sweet potato logs with honey mustard dip. :-)0

Preheat oven at 355 degrees, poke some holes in it (I put a tiny bit of butter on the skin because I eat that part, some people don't), and bake for about 50 minutes.
I do put some butter and brown sugar on the inside if I am having a bad sweet craving or I'm falling super short of my calorie goal, but I can also eat them plain.

I personally like to use my mandolin to slice them very thin and then pan fry them in a little(!) olive oil with Mediterranean seasonings. Yum!0

MMMMM sooooo good! Bake, bake, bake or roast! You can even do them like hashbrowns in the skillet. I like them spicy - I usually season them up with some paprika, garlic, onion powder, S&P, cayenne or chilli powder (s). And thyme, or what ever herb smells good that day. Rosemary is good too. Enjoy! I usually do it at a higher heat, and I would suggest putting parchment down. They are softer when baked, so they tear if they stick.0

I like them best baked with just a little butter on them...but I love them so many otherways also. As a diabetic, they don't shoot my sugars through the roof like a regular potato does....so that is one healthy benefit.0

you can cook them like any normal potatoes but i always found the texture a little weird done some ways... (boiled)...
very nice jacket potatoes or sweet potato chips yum! just chopped into sticks and sprayed with a touch of oil just so they dont stick then some salt and pepper mmmmmm... a place near me does the nicest sweet potato and goats cheese pie, which i will figure how to make one day.... :S

I slice them - either thin on the mandoline slicer or in wedges - toss w/a little olive oil and whatever spices you like. Cook at 350 until done. Also good w/chunks of onion and/or other veggies. We have a really big George Foreman grill that it works great on too.
Or just bake them like a regular potato.0 -
I like them baked, but I also like to make oven "fries" with them. I cut up the potatoes into "fry" shape, toss in a little olive oil, black pepper, salt and a tiny bit of cayenne pepper and bake them in the oven. You can google tons of recipes, but they are so tasty!0

Here's one I haven't seen anyone post yet.
Peel, slice into smallish cubes, boil until tender, drain water. Blend them in a food processor or mixer with butter, minced garlic, parmesan cheese until smooth. Put them in a glass baking dish and top with parmesan. Bake at 350 until the top is partially golden brown, about 30-45 minutes. Omergerd, they are amaaaazing! The total calories per serving isn't that bad - I eat a bowl for dinner or lunch or both!
You'll have to do the math yerself based on how much you add of everything.0 -
Oh and that maple syrup, brown sugar, marshmallows crap is totally disgusting. It's a freaking potato not a dessert.0

Actually, sweet potatoes are to potassium what bananas are presumed to be to potassium. They're chock full of potassium. I tend to stir fry mine with ham and spinach. Tasty!0
