Hi. I just got my Body Fat Handheld machine to track body fat %. The options, besides height and weight, also has a "normal" or "athletic". I am a very muscular person (though there is definitely fat on me, as well), but my legs are like tree trunks and fairly strong (not much fat at all on them). If I select "normal" body fat % is 31%. If I select athletic, it's 28%. Which is accurate or is it more likely something in between?

TIA!

  • Hi,

I'm no expert but in my opinion, if you are fairly muscular then I'd be surprised if your body fat % is as high as 28-31%..on average our bodies are made up of around 50-60% water so if you had 31% bodyfat that would only leave 10-20% left for bones, muscle etc.

I've not used a Bady Fat Handheld machine before, how does it work??

Try getting your BF% measured using calipers or a set of scales with BF% measurement as well and see what that says..

    Good Luck

Your Hand Held should have a manual that should state which setting you should use and gives you criteria for it.

Yes. You are correct and I found it. Thank you. It is a calculation based on frequency, intensity and length of workouts. I qualify as "athletic" by a landslide, so much better info. Thank you!
