How the heck do you cook tilapia????

I've baked it, cooked it in a pan with a little bit of olive oil and even grilled it on my george foreman grill. Turns out good every time.0

I also think that you may be overcooking it. I bake mine in the oven in a foil packet seasoned with lemon pepper. 400 for 15 - 20 min ( i buy the thicker filets)......in fact, I am making some tonight for dinner0

Its suppose to fall apart. Thats how you know its done.
I have no idea why so many people think that's how you know when Tilapia is done or that's how it always is. I've had it numerous times with my boyfriend who loves it. It's never fallen apart when he's cooked it, and I've only cooked it once and it never has fallen apart. We cut it into 3 pieces and either fry it in the frying pan or toss it into one of the multiple Filipino soups he makes. I'd say that people are over cooking it if it's falling apart.0 -
For an easy dinner I sautee minced garlic in a little bit of olive oil and butter add lemon juice and parsely and pour it over 2 filets in a baking dish. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. It is usually done at that point but not falling apart quite yet
Yummy!0 -
On a foil sheet put small amout of butter. Place the fillet on top of the butter. Season the fillet with some Paul Prudhomme seafood magic. Add some thinly sliced lemons and dice sweet onion. Seal up the foil to form a tent and poke one small hole for venting. Cook for 6 -7 minutes on the grill. Quick to prepare and it's tasty.0

Completely agreed. I eat tilapia multiple times a month and I have never had an issue with it falling apart.0 -
I like to pan sear mine with fajita seasoning & lime then top it off after with mango salsa! Delish!0

broil 4 min on one side flip gently 4 min on the other flip gently 4 more min and you are done I have a variety of sauces I like but my usual is to just sprinkle both sides with some Seafood Magic seasoning low cal and yummy!0

Broil it 3 minutes each side. (about 4 inches from the heat source) Holds up pretty good.0

I either bake it in the oven with some lemon pepper seasoning on it for 35 min on 350 OR lately we have been doing it on the stove with a little bit of butter spray, lemon pepper seasoning, and some lime (which we put on right before it's done). Super good! I eat it about 2-4 times a week.
Oh the fish I'm cooking is also frozen. We buy it in big bags from Wal-Mart0 -
Fish taco's! Or mix it with sauted squash, zucchini, carrots, broccoli and brown rice with some lemon pepper seasoning. That is what I do when mine falls apart. Yummy!0

I put it on foil. I marinate with Fat Free Italian dressing and Diet Dr. Pepper. Season with seasoning salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, onion powder, garlic powder. I slice roma tomatoes and lay a couple on top of each piece and then I take jarred jalapenos and sprinkle them all around. . Bake at 400 degrees for about 20 to 25 minutes. When it flakes it is done. I also use foil on the grill.0

I make individual foil packets for each piece of fish. Add the thawed filet and seasonings. I use a little EVOO, Mrs. Dash Lemon Pepper, a little fresh parsley and a splash of lemon juice. Loosely close the packets and bake in 350 degree oven. My filets only took about 10-12 mins to cook. They were very tender and flaky but did not fall apart.
* I also used the frozen tilapia from Walmart.0 -
I bake it with a little bit of olive oil, and lemon juice.0

tilapia is a very thin fish so it doesn't have as long a cook time as salmon. hence, it cooks a lot faster than 15 minutes. I usually sprinkle mine with parm cheese and lemon juice, and bake for 5-8 minutes in a 350F oven. you can also pan fry it, I dust it lightly with flour and put it on a medium-heated, non-stick skillet. 2-3 minutes on each side, then I sprinkle it with lemon.0

i lay out a few fillets on aluminum foil thats sprayed with Pam and bake at 350F until you test it to see if its cooked through..i know you might think that dries it up but it doesnt...somehow it cooks it through and makes it hold together.....i guess because its at a lower heat and gives it time to slowly keep its shape?....then i jack up the heat to broil at 450F and 'grill' it and its done!!!
preseason the fish with your favorite spices and let it SIT for a bit...before you stick it in the oven. NO cover.
hope this helps? mine never fall apart and are very soft inside and crispy outside.0 -
I cook my tilapia in a pan. It usually falls apart by the time I get it out of the pan. It's all going in my mouth anyway so it doesn't matter.:drinker:0

You have to make sure that the fish is dry, completly dry when you are cooking it and then bake in over with no cover0

My basic recipe for just about any cut of white fish:

I grill mine on my George Foreman grill with some lemon pepper seasoning. Mine falls apart too when I take it off the grill. It's just real tender. I dont mind, cuz I'm just gonna eat it anyways.0
-
I steam mine.0
-
why do you care if it falls apart? Cover the thing in mango salsa and enjoy! Save your fork the work ;-)0
-
easiest- on the george foreman grill for about 5 minutes. that's it!0
-
Sounds good and im not sure what bread crumbs you use but you should try Planco bread crumbs they are less on the fat content0
-
Someone may have already said this (I don't want to page through all the responses... too lazy to be honest, haha!) but I put mine on the stove in some Pam spray about 4 mins each side -- YUM!0
-
Dip into flour, then into egg , then in breadcrumb mixture with seasoning, fry in oil for a few minutes = delicious0
