Stregnth Training Question

Ive had 2 strokes and I have rehabilitated, but i still have a lot of weakness in my left side. Id like to start strength training, in addition to running on the elliptical but i have NO idea where to even start. I would have to start even slower than a beginner, so videos arent an option. Also, there is no local gym, and i cant afford a membership and an hour drive 5 days a week one way, so thats not an option. What can i do, and how? Thanks in Advance! =)
