Explain to me "net calories" please?

This has got me absolutely stumped.

Net calories are the calories you have eaten for the day minus your exercise calories.
So you eat your daily goal of 1,500 for example and you added that you burned 300 calories going for a run. Your net calories are only 1,200 and this program will tell you to eat those 300 calories back so your net calories are your daily calorie goal.0 -
