New and fed up with my unhealthy life

Hi, I joined about a week ago, still sort of getting used to the site but so far I like what I see.

I will be turning 43 in a month I have about 90 pounds to lose. More about me in my profile. I can't seem to get a picture uploaded on my iPad or phone so until I find my misplaced laptop cord I guess that will have to stay blank. My picture will include my two chins, a spare tire and maybe my dimples but there's a lot of chub in my face right now from taking prednisone for a recent asthma flare up so they might hide under the puffiness when I take pictures..

My last straws this week to stoke my motivational fires were having my doctor prescribe two more cholesterol lowering meds in addition to the two I was already taking and secondly I read that back when Arnold Schwarzenneger was a competitive bodybuilder he weighed the same as my top weight. Good for Arnold, not so good for a 5'4" woman!

I have lost 18 pounds before joining by making healthier food choices but if you look through my diary you will see that I still make some pretty lousy choices. Feel free to add me if you'd like some stranger as a friend lol.

  • You are going to rock this! Just take baby steps and stay strong.
  • You're on the same cals as me and I'm guessing around the same weight.
I don't think you make 100% 'crap' choices but I think you know which ones need adjusting. There are some great things in there!!
Just change one thing at a time! Cutting your sodium will help alot.
  • Hiya and welcome! I started my own weight-loss process four months ago (as of today), and so far I've lost 46 pounds. I still have about 140 to go before I reach my ultimate goal weight. One of the things I've learned is that it takes time to form better habits. I think it actually takes longer to form the new habits than it did to form the old ones, because you're *replacing* habits, so doing two things at once. That's just my experience.

Anyway, feel free to add me, I'd be glad to help encourage you along the way. :)
  • Thanks for the friend adds that was as easy as making friends in kindergarten lol

@apocalypsePwnie. Yes ,the sodium needs to come down. With my husband traveling I have been relying on convenience choices for me and my kids rather than taking an extre five-ten to prepare something healthier. Terrible excuse which only keeps me maintaining rather than losing.

I hope to be one of the success stories some day.
  • You'll get there! We have a daggy ad series over here that says 'Swap it! Don't stop it!' So chose one thing at a time and swap it out for a better choice.
If you want some inspiration, check out my diary. As I mentioned we are on roughly the same and I get a tonne of fresh stuff in there. I work full time and cook most meals from scratch along with taking care of a household. In the holidays I also have my step kids to prepare for (I'm so lucky they love veggies!)
I also get to eat some really yummy *naughty* things every so often I HAD BACON TWICE THIS WEEKEND!
Salt is a big thing for me too, I just drink lots of water to get it to shift as well as eating lots of leafy greens, celery and a few almonds every day.
