Copy/Pasting from my cooking blog ( www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/taunto )where I share authentic Indian/Pakistani/Arabic recipes. Most of the recipes are handed down to me by Late mother, my sister or my sister in law. Hope you enjoy it!

This recipe was taught to me by my mother. Its a common Pakistani and Indian dish which is delicious, and fairly high in nutrition

Ingredients:

1 large onion of 1.5 medium onion finely chopped
0.5 tsp Black/brown mustard seed (Called Rai in Hindi)
0.5 tsp Mustard seed (Called Methi in Hindi)
0.5 tsp cumin
3 medium size potato (very small pieces)
2 tbsp olive oil
0.5 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chilli pepper powder (or cayan powder if you got that)
2 tomatos finely chopped
1 tsp tomato paste (optional)
2 green chillis (optional. I only use the indian green chillies from indian grocery stores)
salt
some cilantro (optional)

Recipe

In hot oil, add brown mustard seed, mustard seed and cumin. within a few seconds the seeds should make start making a crackling sort of noise. Add onions into it right away and saute it very lightly.

Saute the onion for maybe a minute and then add all the potatoes, tomatoes, tomato paste, turmeric powder, cayan powder, green chillies and salt. Cook till potatoes easily break with the spoon and the inside of the potato pieces don't look white (yellow colored inside means potatoes have absorbed turmeric and other spices). Keep stirring the pot since potatoes get stuck to the bottom of the pan easily.

Once cooked well, take off the heat and add cilantro. Eat with some good bread or eat it just like it.

Hope you enjoy this delicious dish :)

Taunto's recipe is very delicious! Just made it with potatoes I bought on sale this week. Really flavorful dish! Hope it freezes well because I made a fairly large amount.

Yum! I have all of these ingredients because I'm always cooking Indian style dishes. I make a lot of curries (usually with sweet potatoes or lentils).
Thank you for the recipe. It's especially perfect timing since my in-laws just gave me two grocery bags full of potatoes from their garden!

Thanks! I will definitely try this. I love cooking Indian food. I often use sweet potatoes in my curry dishes. They taste amazing with Indian spices. Now I just need a lighter version of Chicken Makhani Curry! I just don't think it would taste good without all the butter :-)
