Dropped my phone in the toilet.

I have a Sanyo Zio. I dropped it in the toilet and then immediately shook the water out and put it in a bowl of rice. It sat in the rice for two days. The screen looks perfect now, however the touch screen does not work. I really don't have the money to buy a new phone atm.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Bring it to the place you got it and get a replacement. You did get insurence on it right? If so, free replacement.

I have insurance on my phone, but it costs $100 to get a replacement.

Yup. You take off the battery door and remove the battery, put the phone into a gallon bag filled with uncooked rice and seal it and leave it alone for at least 48 hours. It will absorb all the moisture. Sometimes this will save a phone, mp3 player, etc. that has gotten wet, but not always. Never hurts to try though!

Sounds like you will have to try the insurance. Sorry.

It depends. I stupidly had my phone on top of my espresso machine and it fell into the milk I was frothing. It wasn't in there long enough to trigger the water damage sticker under the battery door, but did fry the phone. I was honest about it and my insurance covered it. I had asurion through Verizon.

The greater question is why do people take thier phone in the bathroom??, haha! I take mine on my boat , so far so good! I watched two people jupmp in the water with thier phone in thier pocket though....

They do need to make waterproof smart phones though.... it is ridiculous! Good luck!

If the touch screen isn't working, and everything else is, take it to a repair shop. The screen itself could be dead.

New from Apple, it's the iPOOP. Safe for use in all sanitary receptacles world wide.

Frequently with touch screens moisture gets between the membranes, disrupting the signal. You can try using a credit card or some such like a squeegee and start from the top of the screen, working down, gently pushing down on the screen with the card, pushing out any moisture. You MAY get lucky.

I learned that lesson already haha, was pulling in the anchor 2 years ago and my iphone fell out of my pocket and into the lake. 9 months later my next phone ended up in the washing machine.

Rice totally works! Take it apart.. throw it fully in a bag of rice and don't touch for 3 days.
I have had friends drop a phone in a toilet, a swimming pool and a glass of beer.
    Hmm.. I have irresponsible friends.

I saw a kit at walmart by the register for cell phones dropped in water. Supposedly dries them out. If your rice doesn't work try that. it was under $20

If you can, take the battery out. Put the phone and battery separately in a bag of rice, then leave that bag of rice somewhere warm. It all depends on luck. If the liquid hit just the back and battery, you'll be fine if the battery dries. If it hit the motherboard or any other component, it's possible it will just short circuit. Then after a few days, try it (and not before). If it still won't work, you could try it directly from the mains (to see if the phone still works, but the battery has just died). Of-course, before you plug your phone into the mains, leave it 4-5 days. You wanna' make sure it's completely dry. Then if it works, just get a new battery.

Or you could use a hairdryer to get rid of the water that's in it right now. Problem with that method, is that it spreads the water around that is in there already, making it possibly worse than it already is (or it could stop the water in there from spreading while sitting. Again, luck).

Water damage to phones really does suck. But I have had luck myself keeping the phone in a warm area for around a week.

    Good luck!

I can't speak for everyone, but I take my phone into the bathroom with me because I live alone, I put the phone in easy reach so if I were to fall in the shower, I have a way to call for help
