When I weighed in at 550lbs in March I was a huge junk food junkie! Now in september I am down 65lbs at 485lbs. This past week we had some out of town relatives move in for a few months and they brought tons of junk food with them. My cabinet where my healthy snacks once where is PACKED with pop tarts, lucky charms, and rice krispies treats! And where My cheerios and kashi cereal are..... 3 boxes of donuts and frosted flakes! My 1% milk is empty and we now have 2 gallons of WHOLE! I've trapped myself in my room to get away from it but I cant live like this for months! HELPP!!!

It's a good opportunity to exercise your willpower and just say NO!0

You can do this. You've lost 65 pounds so far--wow! No turning back now; you've come too far! If you need some friends to keep you motivated and accountable, feel free to add me!0

ok... so you have your own space... take over a countertop in there for your healthy food... you do NOT have to eat what the unhealthy relatives brought... and maybe you can teach them a thing or two about being good :flowerforyou: :laugh:0 -
I say, be a good influence on them! =D0

I just moved back into college, and two of the four of us eat healthy and the other two eat crap all day. Find someplace to store your healthy food, especially if you can put it away from the junk. And make sure that you have healthy food on hand that you actually want to eat. Don't skip a grocery shopping trip, or you'll start to head towards the junk! Most of all, good luck!0

Wow, you and I are on the same path, I was 525 in July of this year.
As for relatives moving into your place, its yours. You set the rules. If they want food other than what you have in the house they need to store it elsewhere. Don't let them tear you down. I know where you are. My son, SigOther and son are living with us and they too like the donuts etc. I gave them two shelves in the pantry and their food goes there. We compromise and have 2% milk and they have a shelf in the fridge, otherwise I told them to buy an apartment fridge.
Your house, your rules. :bigsmile:0 -
Set up a place for your healthy snacks, even if it's in your room - some place where you won't be opening the cabinet with the junk
It's YOUR home. You have a say in how you live while you're there. It's fair for you to say, after one of the gallons of whole milk is gone, that there has to be a gallon of 1% milk for you if they want their whole milk. Otherwise, they can share 1% with you.
I have to ask - do these relatives also have a weight problem?0 -
Thanks so much for the help and support everyone!0

THIS!!
If they want to have the junk in YOUR house make them store it in their room!! as for the milk, i always make sure my milk is in the fridge and i tell ppl that the whole is for them and my kids. They may be family but they still need to respect ur rules. good luck!0 -

It's your home, lay dawn some rules and tell them to keept that junk in their room and out of your site.
To quote Nancy Reagan. "JUST SAY NO!"0 -
It's also a great way to keep guests from staying too long. Don't want to eat like I do? GTFO.0

I agree with this. It's your home therefore you have a right to have room for your things even when you have guests. The fact you're letting them have all that stuff is something they ought to be grateful for, when I lived with my Aunt and Uncle for 3 months all my things were confined to the guest bedroom. I couldn't have my food or drinks, I had to consume theirs.
Even then it's a temptation, yeah, but so long as you can have a choice between the bad stuff and the good stuff I think you'd ultimately choose the good and not indulge in their junk.0 -
You should not have to hide out in your own home. Let them have a shelf in their room w/ all that junk. Lay down ground rules or things will get out of hand. Congrats on your hard work so far. Don't let this mess you up. Good Luck!0
-
tell them to please respect your wishes and ditch it or put it some where else.0
-
Surely this far down you are able to resist temptation. I had same thing with my MIL n she actually laughed when she filled up shopping trolley with stuff I said I didn't eat (I got my own trolley). She was here for 6 weeks n I never stepped out of my line. Think I lost steadily 2lbs per week then thanks to her attitude cos I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction. Now she tells me I am on a special diet...yeh no crap diet.0

I think I agree with this!
I would be sitting them down and laying down house rules, very fimrly and very clearly! It will be easier to do it now from the beginning rather than two months down the line when you are totally at your wits end.0 -
I would give them one cupboard that is for them. And ask them to keep all that stuff in their space. Instead of saying what you want to say "Keep your nasty crap out of my healthy space!", just say you don't want to be tempted to eat their stuff. lol Maybe they will take the hint that you don't like that crap in your kitchen. Maybe they will back off on buying it, and maybe you will influence them to change!! Good luck! That has to be a tough situation!0

In agreement with most of the replies so far. You have to put yourself first and you've made that commitment and it's working for you. This is obviously a life or death decision and you're doing so awesome. They should be sensitive to your needs rather than having all that junk. I wish you the very best on your journey.0

Your house your rules. any food they leave laying about, bin it, put it in the trash. "oh sorry I though it was trash"
65lb is a man sized loss, be poud, and do not forget where you came from.0 -
Seriously, I will never understand American food. How come pop tarts are tempting to you??? That is so artificial, it doesn't even TASTE like food. And oreos are freakin' disgusting as well! Just think about it and you won't have any problems.0
-
I agree they need to keep the food in their room and you just have to set boundaries. Be strong - they are staying with you and need to be respectful.
Also - KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB AND DON'T GO BACK!!!!!!!! Kudos on 65lbs. You go my man.0 -

Basically everything that you described that they brought is f* awful. Just think about it and you won't have any problems.
Wow! How rude and unhelpful!
Anyway, almost everyone else here understands temptation. In fact, it is hard enough to resist on a normal basis, let alone when it invades your home. Good luck and I agree that you should definitely lay down some rules. Hopefully your visitors are understanding!0 -
i'm not being rude. I'm trying to help.
He obviously has some kind of barrier in his mind so that when he sees junk food (it's called JUNK for a reason) he can't control himself.
Most of the Americans are given those foods as children, and that's why your taste buds are kind of ruined, that's why you put cream and butter on everything that can be eaten.
When you think about it, twinkies are disgusting and so are oreos, I have so many (american) friends on this website who said that after eating "clean" (no junk food) their taste changed, and now they don't find that stuff tempting.0 -

Anyway some American food is strange, as is some food from Beijing, dog brain soup, deep fried scorpion, dung beetle kababs, with ant eggs. Different strokes for different folks0 -
You shut your mouth about Oreos!!!!0
-
You've done an absolutely amazing job to lose 65lbs. You have learned good eating habits which will help you resist the junk they insist on eating. Clear one cupboard for them and tell them that is where they can keep their food so you don't have to look at it every time you open the cupboard to get your stuff (cos we all have days we find it harder to resist). You never know, seeing you being healthy and seeing how far you have come might encourage them to do the same. and don't let them bully you into eating rubbish because they are jealous of your restraint. Good luck, you have come so far I know you can do it :flowerforyou:0

HAHA! I was just thinking to myself, "I'm not an American and I would rip your head off for a Twinkie!"0 -

***This last sentence says it all. YOUR HOUSE YOUR RULES. Dont let them do this to you. They cant you know....not unless you let them. My Fiance' is on this site with me (HA!!!) and professes to be "logging" along with me. We are not on each others friend list. I dont even know his sign on. And Im ok with it. He does the cooking here and does an awesome job of it. He cooks so healthy for me and serves me only after he has weighed everything out. THIS he does for me.
However (and like a "but" there's always one isnt there) I strolled out in the kitchen the other morning and lo and behold there sits a pan full of the most decadent looking double fudge brownies. When I got home from work that afternoon.....they were half gone. Imagine that? What Im getting at was....I could have eaten some before work that day, they were right there in front of me...I could have had some when I got home but I chose not to.
Justin........dont let others tempt you or convince you to step off the wagon. Its a long fall and very hard to climb back on. You've come soo far young man.........NO one is worth the fall. You've found a little niche for yourself now........and it doesnt have room for these other people or their junk food. STAND STRONG huni...............we're here to listen and to absorb your rant or thoughts of temptation. Just let it out with us where it's safe rather than "there" where there's food you really dont want to eat.
Add me or PM me of you wanna chat0 -

With all due respect..
......and you're here why?
Because you've ALWAYS eaten healthy?
Because you've NEVER eaten junk?
Because you've ALWAYS made good food choices?
Because where ever it is that you live doesnt have these bad nasty foods?
Because you were NEVER ever fed these types of things or have eaten anything less than one hundred percent healthy and nutritious??
Id be very careful up there on that glass pedestal....somebody some day will knock your self righteous pompous derriere off it and it wont be pretty.
Have a great day
eta: and your first remark...and I quote: "i'm not being rude. I'm trying to help".....prefacing your tactless self serving remarks with this doesnt make what you're going to say more helpful or less rude. It doesnt give you carte blanche to say anything you want, it doesnt temper rude or tactless remarks.0
