Hi everyone

In the words of Eddy Monsoon, inside of me, there is a thin person just screaming to get out (mum - just the one dear?)!!!

After a few false starts over the past few weeks (quit smoking 2 months ago), I'm now ready to start a serious weight loss mission! Would be nice to befriend some people who are in a similar boat so we can encourage each other.

I weigh 15 stone 6 pounds, am a size 16 (at least) and I DON'T KNOW how that happened. Well I do. I eat far too much and don't move enough. I also have developed a seriously unhealthy relationship with food, after years of punishing starvation diets followed by binges. The typical trap of becoming so obsessive and strict about dieting that I feel denied and as soon as I lose the weight my mind rebells and I pig out, putting it all back on and more. I've got a sweet tooth too!

I weighed 10 st 7ibs as an 18 yr old and felt FAT then. Silly girl!!! In hindsight, I only needed to tone up and lose 7-14 pounds but it triggered my yo yo dieting. Now my BMI says I'm OBESE! I aim to lose the weight (5 st 6 Ibs to get to 9 st 7 Ibs) once and for all. When I get there, and at each milestone along the way, I'm going to LOVE and appreciate my body, not feel disgusting! I've got a holiday booked for Marbella next June and would love to be close to my ideal then. It's also not just about the weight, I also want to feel more energetic and all round healthier too.

As well as eating a healthy diet and exercising, I plan to read a lot about overeating and deal with the psychological issues too so that I'll maintain my weight once I get to my ideal. And while I want to eat really clean, healthy foods, say 90-95% of the time, the key to my success will be to be realistic and allow the ocassional treat (especially alcohol!) and still stay on track (do you ever 'blow' your diet on a Wednesday and carry on bingeing the rest of the week because it will be monday now till you can start your diet again?!) I'm going to take the approach that if I have a treat, then I have to burn it off in the gym to stay within my daily calorie limits.

So, if my story rings sme bells with you, add e as a friend and we'll support each other! We can do it, good luck!

Claudia.

Add me if you like. How did you quit smoking? I need to quit but just haven't found that magic button for myself like I did for wanting to lose weight. 30 gone another 50-60 more to go. I haven't decided on what my goal weight should be but I am sure I will know once I get there.

And I can't add up, aim to lose 5 st 6 Ibs to get to 10 stone. 9 1/2 st was my ideal as a teenager, in my 30s now, so will see!

    Hi lilangel,

Well done on losing 30 Ibs that's amazing! Must be a great feeling when you've lost a third of your total weight. What are your secrets of success? Well I'm other way round, feel pretty confident I'm finally free from smoking addiction, but feel like I've a HUGE mountain to climb when I comes to the weight, as I've failed so many times before!

I quit using the gum for a couple of weeks (boyfriend is using ecigarette and loves it) then cold turkey. Put it down to educating and reprogramming my mind to believe there's no benefits to smoking (Allen Carr is a great book) and that quitting isn't that hard, just a period of readjustment. Feeling that you're gaining freedom as opposed to giving anything up. Joined a forum too.

Now hope to apply this kick *kitten* approach to losing weight!
