Has anyone ever heard of loosing weight while pregant?

I would never try to lose weight while pregnant. I gained 60 lbs even with my first daughter, mainly due to poor advice from older women that I should eat more even if I'm not hungry... Anyway, my 2nd, I only gained 10-15 through the pregnancy and when I had her I actually weighed less than I did before I got pregnant with her. I didn't try to do that though. Trying for my 3rd now, and I plan to just eat like I have been, eat when I'm hungry or craving something, and try my best to keep exercising. Aside from that, I will not TRY to lose weight.0

I lost 14 lbs the first 3 months but not on purpose, it was due to morning sickness. I think eating healthy, not overdoing the portions etc, exercising, like walking, swimming not strenous is great and will help you not to gain alot but you should gain some weight while pregnant you want a healthy baby0

When I delivered my last child I was down 10 Lbs. They told me this was nothing to worry about and that the baby would take all it needs. I was not trying for this but that is what happened.0

I have to be on a hideous diet whenever I get pregnant because I get gestational diabetes. When I got pregnant with my son, the first weigh-in @ around 12 weeks pregnant was 170 & change. The first weigh-in after I had given birth was 150 & change. My son was 9lbs 6.5oz when he was born & while pregnant, I had my own gravitational pull. I was not actively trying to lose weight...I chalk it up to my carb intake being severely restricted.0

I say just talk to your doctor. Just eat healthy and keep exercising until you get to big. If it's something you are used to doing it is fine, unless it is some extreme sport. The baby should get what it needs regardless, but you will suffer if you aren't getting enough nutrients. It's only nine months and MFP will be here after it's done. Good luck!0

I lost about 20. It wasn't on purpose and I would never recommend dieting during pregnancy (unless advised by a dr). I just had awful morning sickness followed by this awful heart burn. He was a large baby and pressed up on my stomach making it difficult to eat a whole meal.
He was born weighing nearly 9 lbs -- AND HE WAS BORN A MONTH EARLY! Phew!0 -
You only need an extra few hundred calories while you're pregnant (above maintenance). I would suggest just eating as healthy as possible and drink plenty of water (and stay active!). Sometimes even despite best efforts, some people just gain a lot of weight during pregnancy. Everyone's body reacts differently during pregnancy and I think it's just a response to your needs (assuming you aren't living off twinkies or whatever lol). I know a lady who gained 80lbs + with each pregnancy and dropped it all quickly after each baby. She didn't eat like a pig or anything, it's just how her body handled the hormones.
I gained 28 lbs with my 1st and 18 lbs with my 2nd. I didn't eat all that healthy honestly but I had wicked morning sickness lol0 -
my sister has maintained her weight well into her 2nd trimester. i think its because she's over weight and trying to eat healthier for the baby tho..0

I was obese when I got pregnant with my first daughter. I lost 20 pounds while pregnant , then gained 35 then had her and lost it all, then gained it back. so 220 then 200 then 235 then had her and 200 then back up to 225.0

I lost some weight during the first 3 months with my daughter, maybe 12 lbs or so, but it was due mainly to stress and feeling nauseous a lot, def wasn't trying.0

In rare cases a doctor will recommend for a woman to not gain any more weight while pregnant... Usually though, you will gain weight just on the sheer fact you have to grow a lot of new things! A baby, placenta, your growing uterus, the doubled blood volume, water weight, breast tissue, accounts for about 20-25lbs of the weight you gain! I am due in 2 days (yay) and I have gained about 35lbs, so I know about 25 of those will be gone shortly after giving birth, which is a huge relief. Don't stress about weight gain but DO stress about eating healthy and exercise. It isn't always as easy said as done (I for one, became really picky during pregnancy and I usually am not a picky eater), but it is really important to get the proper nutrition during pregnancy (more for your sake than the baby's, because she/he will take whatever s/he needs from you!). You can always see a nutritionist/dietician throughout pregnancy if your insurance covers it if you're really worried. Good luck! I totally understand the fear of weight gain, I still cringe when I see the scale at the moment!!0

I did with my second. But I had hyperemesis.
Lost fifty pounds in five months, and walked out of the hospital in my pre-pregnancy jeans.
Of course, I think it gave me fibromyalgia, but hey, it worked.0 -
I understand your fear. I've been lucky in that the weight that I put on was not from pregnancy, and a good chunk of the total weight I've lost (not reflected on MFP) was due to pregnancy. I got yelled at for losing weight for a while - finally I got to the point where I ate crap food constantly for a few weeks to try to at least stop losing. Then it kind of shifted in the last ten weeks, but I left the hospital after having my son weighing 25 pounds less than I did at my 8 week appointment - so I consider that pretty decent.
I kept a diary with the second so they could see that I was actually eating enough food, but I think the biggest difference was that "enough food" would fill me up then, but doesn't when I'm not pregnant. I am not sure if it's just baby hogging all the belly space or what, but I could only eat so much and I was done, and if I ate more I ended up with killer heartburn. I seriously wish I was like that when I'm NOT pregnant!
They say approximately 20-25 pounds of baby, fluid, placenta are what you should expect - so try to limit the gain as much as you can, but don't eat at a deficit - that baby needs lots of goodies (including some fats - healthy ones would be perfect!) to grow!
Best of luck!0 -
I lost 50 lbs while pregnant for my son because I chose to eat cleaner for his health. A few days after he was born I was at the lowest weight I ever was during my adult life. As long as you are truly eating well and cleanly and if you stay active, you may not gain a lot.
Good luck with the expansion of you family0 -
While i did not lose weight while pregnant i gained normal ( in terms of medical books) weight during my first pregnancy. And after the baby came out I actually weighed 10 lbs lighter than I was before I was pregnant.
so i would say that if you remember when you are pregnant you are NOT eating for two and just eating maybe 10% more, you can prevent a heavy weight gain after the pregnancy is over. This is even more important if you are already overweight. You weight gain should really be that much.
I would make the main goal is getting good clean foods in your system and stay as far away from the junk as possible. Cleaner foods will equal more and better nutrients to your baby and a better recovery.0 -
I would talk to your Dr. It's probably possible to not gain alot if you watch what you eat really closely, but unless your doc gives you the ok I wouldn't try to lose purposely. I lost 100 lbs before having my babies so I could get healthy for them, gained 60 with my first and lost 30 of it after, again another 60 with the second and lost 30, then gained 40 more lbs in the 4 years since. It is so easy to slip back into bad habits when you have a baby growing, even though you really should just be eating more protein and whole foods.0

I did not try to actively lose weight, but with my second child, I weighed 21 pounds less the day I delivered him than I did the day I conceived him. He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. He was perfectly healthy and happy.
My third, I weighed 1 pound more the day I delivered him than the day he was conceived. He weighed 8 pounds 11 and a half ounces. He was also healthy.
My firstborn? I lost 15 pounds in the first half of the pregnancy and then gained almost 50 the last half of the pregnancy. She weighed 6 pounds 5 and a half ounces. She was healthy too.
I gained weight AFTER I had all 3 of them.0 -
I was extremely heavy when I got pregnant (about 288 lbs.) with twins. I was exceedingly sick and had to end up being put on a special diet with no salt, very low amounts of sugar and carbs and tons of water (had very high BP and out-of-control gestational diabetes). Until they got my BP under control and my g-diabetes leveled out, I could barely keep anything down. So, without wanting to, during my pregnancy, I ended up losing about 40 lbs. I gained most of my weight (up to 327 lbs.) after I had my babies because they never slept. In order to stay awake with them, I would eat.
However, I'm still lighter now than I was at my lowest post-pregnancy weight (the day of my C-section).0 -
Idk that actually trying to lose weight while pregnant would be a good idea, but keeping healthy eating habits and exercise to keep from gaining excess weight would work. I'm actually planning to start trying for another baby in the very near future, and once I get pregnant, I'll be asking my dr. about how much I should be eating and what exercises are safe for me and baby so that I can stay as healthy as possible.0

My Daughter just turned 2 last weekend... We had lots of kids over for her party and we loved the idea of giving our daughter alittle sister or brother. Anyway My first pregnacy i gained 100lbs!!!!!!!!! I think part of it was the fact that i quit smoking cold turkey and i wasnt moving very much... Anyway so Since the birth of my daughter i've lost 50lbs. Now i would love to loose another 20 before getting pregnant but im just scared that while im pregant im going to gain everything back. Im going to try my hardest to contuine walking every other night and eating healthy. But has anyone ever heard of someone loosing weight while being pregnant ??
Yes I lost weight in my second pregnancy. About 15 pounds between my 4th and 6th month. I was very active person with a 2 year old at the time. Dr warned me about losing too much. My suggestion is not to try to lose weight. Keep doing the activities you do and eating the right food I don't think you'd gain more than the normal pregnancy weight.0 -
Do NOT actively try to lose weight while pregnant. It isn't about you right now. Sorry, just saying.0
-
my mom told me that she gained 4lbs with me and I was 8lbs at birth, so she left the hospital weighing less then she did before she got pregant0
-
I lost 50 lbs while prego but was very sick through the whole pregnancy while my son literally sucked the life right out of me. Love him all the world but do not want another pregnancy after the first one. Happy being a mommy the pregnancy part was just hard.0
-
My mom had gestational diabetes while pregnant with me. The diet the dr put her on caused her to lose 40 pounds in her first trimester of the pregnancy, and she and I both came away just fine0
-
I lost weight with my 4th (last) baby. I was overweight and had gestational diabetes. I was on a strict diet because of the diabetes, and didn't gain any weight. Right after delivery I was down about 20 lbs. Baby was healthy.0

I'm sure I lost weight when I was pregnant, even though I hadn't weighed myself for ages beforehand as I didn't need to buy any bigger clothes (lucky as we were only surviving on one income for most of the time). I was 76 kg when I was admitted to hospital, and I can't remember how much I was when I left hospital, but I was the smallest I've been in years - I fitted into my friend's size 10-12 pants and jeans she lent me, and the medium dress she bought me for Christmas.0

Because I was overweight when I got pregnant, I lost weight during the pregnancy. I gained a total of 17 lbs with each kiddo. I lost 30 lbs after each kiddo too. BUT, I highly recommend losing weight before getting pregnant, it's exhausting.
I'm considering 1 more, but it will not be until I reach my goal weight.0 -
I lost weight (not intentionally) with both my kids. 20 with one and 25 with the other. My doctor totally FLIPPED his lid. I mean he freaked, and told me to STOP losing weight. I had only lost 12 pounds at that point. You should talk to your doctor. I totally understand your fear, but you do want a healthy baby.0

I lost a little weight while pregnant and doing the Weight Watchers pregnancy program a long time back. I ate very healthfully and walked every single day. I was monitored by my specialist whom did regular ultra sounds so it was all ok.0

You shouldn't actively try to loose weight while pregnant, but you can eat super healthy and keep up whatever exercise routine you're already doing.
Morning sickness helps some women (lol) and growing the baby in general takes a lot of energy so if you're eating right your body will dip into those existing stores.
I had GD and I still only gained 10 pounds in the end and was 15 pounds down from my pre-preg weight 2 weeks after kiddo was born. It took a lot of work to maintain my medical condition and pregnancy but it was worth it in the end to have a perfectly healthy baby girl and the bonus of having lost weight!
Remember you don't need to add extra cals to your diet until 2nd trimester and it's only 300 extra! About 450 in the 3rd.
Stick to healthy maintenance cal level, keep up exercise and add your extra cals when the time is right.
^^^ This for me as well...I kept up training with a PT. I ate high nutrient foods...I had no intention of losing weight during just wanted to gain the appropriate amount for a pregnant woman with my BMI which at the time was obese. Bub is healthy, 6mths n I came out of the pregnancy 8lbs lower than when I first found out I was pregnant. All supervised n I was high fived by both doctors and my trainer. The doctors gave me a lot of medical research to read. Each BMI class has a different healthy weight range to gain during pregnancy now...it's not a one size fits all.0
