Exercising With COPD

Anybody have any experience with exercising and COPD?
I have been going to the gym and doing various exercise programs (Yoga, Fitness Bootcamps) trying to get fit, but I have emphysema and it is driving me crazy not knowing at what point my breathing will cease to improve. Maybe it won't improve? How do I know when my lungs are as good as they're going to get?
I'm tired of being exhausted so easily. Will I improve some, a lot, or none?
Thanks in advance for your insight :smokin:

I don't have an answer, other than to speak to an expert in that field, since I do not have COPD myself. You can do some extensive searching via Google to see what others with COPD have to say, join some COPD forums and ask for others experiences there.
I guess the main thing here, is to keep trying and try not to let the fear or thought turn into an obsession. Keep working at it and you will continue to see improvements in so many areas, you never know how it will impact your lungs.0 -
I'm sorry to hear of your condition. I can't speak from experience, but my mom has copd. She is much older than you and all she can do is go walking. Her pulmonary specialist recently advised her to take a pump from her inhaler before she goes for her walks. I gather this will open up the pathways to her lungs so oxygen can flow freely during her exercise. As a result she can do her walks more easily... and we all know how good exercise is for our lungs and hearts! Maybe ask your doctor about this, or any other exercise advice?
Kudos to you for keeping at it!! FEEL GOOD!0 -
Talk to your doc about using your rescue inhaler about 20 minutes before you workouts. It works well for those with asthma which is very similar and will more than likely work for you. Your practitioner can help with the dosing and timing so you get the best effect.0

I have COPD also. Sad, but I do. But, I have reading a lot on it and everything I find says to take vitamin D, it can stop it and might reverse it. Have you heard of that?0
