Anyone ever taken any mild supplements for the liver while dieting and exercising?

Not large cleansers that make you constantly use the bathroom and are dehydrating just supplements to help your liver and help digestive system get rid of crap like alcohol and other pollutants that might still be in the system to flush fat out quicker like an all natural supplement like dandelion leaf, boldo leaf etc. Anyone know how effective these supplements are?

I don't trust sales pitches for "products". I prefer to eat clean and plenty of produce.

They're very effective - at removing money from your wallet for no good reason. Unless you have some kind of liver problem, the liver does exactly what it's supposed to do as far as filtering/removing toxins from your body. Cleanses are another "diet hoax" designed to sell products and make money.

Your body doesn't need any help from these products to do it's job well. Eat well, exercise, and keep your money in your wallet. It's difficult to accept that spending more money will do absolutely nothing towards your goal, but it's true. We associate spending cash with results a lot, but for fitness, nothing will replace dedication, so don't waste time, money and mental efforts on complete crap like cleanses and detoxes.

IMHO, the liver can heal itself if you don't add new toxins and stress it with overeating. Our bodies are amazing in their ability to heal. "Clean" food - lots of nutrient dense food - fruits, veggies, healthy fats, lean proteins, unprocessed food "in its original package"), exercise, rest, lots of water, low stress, and the "liver cleanse" will be slower but less dangerous and harsh. I've tried cleanses and if it's too harsh you can have a bad reaction, and it can trigger bingeing. And, incidentally, all those things listed above are the lifestyle changes we need to adopt to stay healthy and vibrant for life. For the first time in my life, I'm having success with slow and steady. I bet my liver appreciates the real food and the rest it gets when I'm not stuffing myself more than an expensive supplement. FWIW, my two cents. Good luck!

Do you have any reason to believe your liver is not functioning properly?

Depending on the supplement/"detoxifier", you could actually stress your liver instead of helping it.

Unless you've had the blood work done to prove a failing liver, I'd stay away from anything that is supposed to affect liver function. Trust your body.

I agree. This is very well put. However, Dandelion Tea does work. It can be purchased to Whole Foods for about $5.00 per box. My Naturpathic Doctor Prescribed it for me to assist in an herbal liver cleanse. I was also eating well, exercising and drinking a ton of water. Hot water with lemon too. Good Luck Luv.

Lots of clean, whole foods....fruits and veges. Carrot and green juices...your body loves. Heathy oils... cold pressed. Stay away from all other hydrogenated oils if you want a happy liver.

I had a severe gallbladder attack (I am a nurse, work on a surgical floor).... it was a wake up call. I immediately got on Dandelion root and Milk Thistle (per capsules...wanted more than the tea would give me) knocked off all refined fats and added carrot juice. I was okay in four days and have not had a repeat (I kept up the two herbs for a month and now take them periodically). Taking a few supplements and improving your diet is way cheaper than surgery. And I have seen first hand, it seems like a no-big-deal surgery, but there can be miserable complications not having your gallbladder. I have read that the liver is taxed and/or benefits in a similar way.

Oh, I took Raw Apple Cider Vinegar and the above mentioned lemon in water. Good stuff. Take care.
