KettleBell Exercise

Hi. .totally new to kettlebells. .I hear they are supposed to be fabulous. .How many swings (just the regular swing - double arms - pendulumn maybe?) is a "workout"?

At my gym they had these tiny ones and then the next size up was 15 lbs. ..I did 5 sets of 25 - but no clue how many I should really be doing. . .I did 35 minutes on Elliptical first. Any help is great - thanks!!

I'm sure you'd have to do reps and sets like any other weight training.. I do them in a class setting, I take a class called TRX/kettlebell fusion, and we alternate between TRX (suspension trainers) and kettlebell exercises. We do 3 sets of 45 second intervals of each exercise, and there are usually about six or eight different exercises to be done. Even that is only half the class.. right there, that's only about 20 minutes. It'd take quite a lot of swings to make a workout.

Actually if you are using the proper weight kettlebells are the highest calorie burn exercise available.

Granted if you are just beginning then you wont start off burning that much. Forget the tiny weakling KBs at your gym. Since you are a woman, get yourself an 18lb kettlebell and start swinging. The best course of action is to find an RKC,HKC, or AKC certified trainer for a couple sessions to make sure you have your body mechanics correct. I like Michael Skoggs personality and use his training, but I do HKC 2 crease mechanics.

You will find that if you use the right weight(no sissy weights please)and go hard, that you will sweat and breath like never before.

    good luck, swing hard.
