2oz is = to 1/4 cup
Not correct. 2 oz dry doesn't equal 1/4 cup cooked.0 -
Just a thought: if you want to cut down on your carbs, why not try using spagehetti squash instead of pasta? It's a mild-tasting squash and adapts well to pasta recipes--without the calories and carbs--which means you can eat more! Had some for lunch today with a little sauce and turkey meatballs. Yummy!
I still haven't tried spaghetti squash...VERY afraid I'll be disappointed
I was very upset with the spagehettie Squash, not so much the taste but the consistency!0 -

Correct, but not quite the answer the OP was looking for. The enginerd in me cannot resist the need to correct this.
2 FLUID OUNCES is 1/4 of a cup. This is a measure of volume and cannot be universally translated to mass or weight (you need to know the density of something then do some fancy math to make that conversion).
2 ounces, which is equivalent to 1/8 of a pound or 56 grams, which is what's specified on the spaghetti box as a single serving, is a measure of mass.
If you're looking for a quick estimator, find something that's close to the 2 ounce (BY MASS) serving -- a sandwich bun is usually in the 40 grams range, a stick of butter, by mass, I think, is 1/4 pound, which is 4 ounces or two servings. (I know it's 1/2 cup, and I'm pretty sure it's 1/4 pound, but it's been a while since I checked how much one weighed)0 -
Get yourself a food scale I got a great one in walmart for like 22.00. It is great it is digital and very helpful.0

Right. 2oz dry is 2/16ths of a pound... or roughly 60g. Liquid ounces are a totally different thing... 1/8th of a cup.0 -

Not really sure what it is in cups, but I compare it visually to the size of a quarter (:0

2 oz dry spaghetti = 1 cup cooked <lightly packed in cup>
This is the best answer. But yes, get you a food scale!0 -
You're suppose to get 10.6 half cups of cooked spaghetti out of a pound raw.0

This thread makes me want to eat a pound of spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, hot italian sausages, garlic bread, and freshly grated parmigiana. Just needed to let that out.0

Totally agree with the need to get a scale if you are serious about losing weight.0 -

I think it's worthwhile trying - - - many people like it as a pasta replacement.
I like it as a vegetable side dish, but I don't prefer it with sauce and meatballs. There is a pumpkin-esque flavor to it that does not go well with Italian flavors to me.
If I'm having Italian, I just hoard my daily calories and carbs and have the pasta. BUT like I said, many people like it, so give it a try!
I wanted to elbow my way back in, here. I loooooove shredded zucchini and spaghetti sauce. Sauteed zucchini with a little EVOO and some garlic and pepper....you can either use it as a pasta "supplement" and still have a little pasta too - by mixing the two, or you can sub it straight up for pasta noodles. So good.
Oooooooh, zuccini ribbons! They wouldn't have that pumpkin flavor! Brilliant!
Thanks! I will be trying this!0 -
Got my food scale ot Goodwill for .25 it is worth a look.0

If you can try to measure it by how many servings are in the package. So if there are 8 servings in the package try to split it up into 8's. If the pack has already been opened and you've used some before i'm not sure what to tell ya. But, if you're looking for a food scale check ebay, I got one for $15.00!0

That is a liquid measure. 2 oa of pasta is measured by dry weight. It is 1/8 of a 1 lb box.0 -

Wow... I have never thought to try anything like that. My kids demand pasta all the time, spaghetti being a favorite. I hate seeing them eat so much of that stuff, but I am going to try the spaghetti squash next time, heck, maybe even tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!0 -

Absolute god-sent vegetable. LOVELOVELOVE. I usually use a lil butter (yes the full fat, I don't like eating chemicals) or EVOO and just a smidge of salt. DELISH. Have tried it as a "pasta" dish as well, fresh crushed tomato sauce. Also DELISH.
Also will say that food scale is a must, helps in calculations. "eyeballing it" proves to be tough.
Ohhhhhh yeah, Ive done it up for my "pasta" alternative... uber yummy. My husband also likes it as well!!!! Its cheap, easy and a little goes a VERY LONG way!0 -

Found this info:
"Tips on Portion Sizes:
For short pastas and egg noodles, like elbow macaroni, shells, spirals, wagon wheels, ziti, etc., 2 ounces uncooked is roughly equal to 1/2 cup dry and about 1 cup cooked (Larger, bulkier shapes such as bowties, penne rigate, rigatoni, and wide noodles may yield more, while smaller shapes such as Stars or Alphabets may yield less). For long goods such as spaghetti, angel hair, vermicelli, linguine, etc., 2 ounces uncooked equals 1/2 inch bunch dry and 1cup cooked.
To make a single portion of pasta use approximately 1/2 cup dry pasta or measure 1/2 inch diameter of dry long pasta (1 cup or 2 grain servings cooked). A single portion of sauce is ½ cup as well. For fast meals – freeze ½ cup portions of sauce, defrost, and add to any dish."
