How much should weight fluctuate?

I know that "they" say you shouldn't weigh yourself every day, but it seems like my weight fluctuates so much (1-2 lbs) day to day that I don't know if weighing just once a week gives an accurate picture of my weight loss. So how much should your weight fluctuate day to day, and how often/when should you weigh yourself to get an accurate weight? Can anyone "weigh in" on this topic? Thanks!

I weighed myself at 6am (when I get up) and at 8pm, just befor bed, for a week. My weight averages about 2.5 pounds a day. I also keep a daily log of when I step on the scale each morning, after I pee and befor coffee. This helps to show me when I am retaining water and then I can go back threw my food and try to see what it is that my body does not like.
This is just me. Your body may be different as we eat different things and I am know for retaining water. Hope this helps.0 -
Mine can typically be 4 lbs. Water balance is very sensitive.
I'm sure others can beat that though!0 -
I only weigh once every other week just to see how I'm progressing. My weight can shift up to 5 pounds over two days depending on if I ate junk the day before, if TOM is coming soon, and hell, if I'm constipated. Kind of gross but true. That's why the scale is the last thing I use to track my progress.0

MIne will fluctuate a few pounds during the day. What I do is weigh myself every monday morning - I get up, I pee, I strip to my undies and bra and weigh myself. That way clothes don't factor in each week. This is most accurate for me. I may go down two weeks and then up a little the third, but then a slightly larger drop the next. But if you look at say a few months progress - its a downward trend, to me thats whats matters. I don't freak if I "gain" a little one week since I know there are a lot of factors.0

I have caught a 6 lbs swing over the course of the day and as much as 3-4 day to day (same time of day). I would say this is why I track daily is to see the trend not the number.0
