I have loads of calories left (1325), but I obviously still want to be healthy- not necessarily just low cal, but HEALTHY. This is also for my mum as she is trying to lose weight.

So many Indian foods are filled with butter & cream, it can be very challenging.

I think it is best to order something cooked in a tandoor (oven), such as tandoori chicken or tandoori fish.

Eat everything/anything. All that stuff is delicious.

Saying that, last night I had low fat prawn masala with spinach rice, masala mash and a poppadum with garlic chutney. Filling, tasty and only about 650 cals.

What sort of restaurant are you going to? Anglocised? Southern? Nepalese? Sri Lankan?

Dosas are a personal favourite of mine and aren't loaded with fat/cream.
  • I live in England, so pretty Anglocized I'd say :D

Depends where in England. I live in Croydon and haven't been to an Anglocised Indian restaurant locally for years.

If it is an Anglocised restaurant and you're trying to stay on the healthy side of the menu I'd recommend (assuming you eat meat) tandoori or tikka chicken, rice, if you really want a bread get a chapati. Maybe some daal or saag aloo if you want something not dry.

    Oh, my!

For me, there's no such thing as *only* 650 calories, since that's more than half a day's food allowance.

Of course, I'm older and vertically-challenged, so you may be able to eat quite a bit more than me.

That's very low for a two course Indian dinner at a restaurant.

I'm 5' 4" and only have an allowance of 1200 per day without exercise allowance, but I went climbing yesterday and having been calorie cycling, including to 500 cal 'fast' days to give me an healthy allowance of calories to enjoy an evening out with my partner and friends last night. Life goes on despite the 'diet', you just have to find ways to make it all work for you.
