If you used to give your pet Interceptor,
what have you switched to now?
I am about to run out and will need to switch to another heartworm preventative for my dog. I really liked the broad spectrum of protection from intestinal worms that Interceptor afforded as well.
My dog is not sensitive to Ivermectin, so I could use those products.
Just curious what others are using now that Interceptor is unavailable.

I give my dogs heartguard plus and order from vetmedsforpets.com for the lowest rate I could find as I have 3 large dogs I need to dose. It has worked very well. Vetmedsforpets is a great online business and I have had seamless transactions w/them.
Why did they take interceptor off the market?0 -
I don't remember exactly what happened, but all Novartis dog meds were affected, including Deramaxx. I think they had to shut down a plant. My vet told me back in January to buy two packs of Interceptor instead of one, which is why I'm running out now. Everyone thought that Interceptor would be readily available by the end of the summer, but it isn't. Some of the big chain veterinarians can get Deramaxx again, but the small independent vets are still waiting. It's a real mess! :ohwell:

Here's a news story on it. They did have to shut down a plant. http://news.vin.com/VINNews.aspx?articleId=241870 -
I work at a vet and we switched most of our clients to Trifexis. It's heart worm, intentional parasites and flea protection.
I have my dog on CPP (Custom Parasite Protection). It's compounded in to capsules and has the same ingredients at Interceptor for heart worms and intestional parasites plus flea control. You can break the capsule open and sprinkle on food or just give it as is.
I know some clients are using Heartgard Plus now0 -
I use Trifexis for my dog.0

For the folks using Trifexis: Does it also afford tick protection?
Right now my dog is using Frontline Plus for fleas and ticks. Ticks are a real issue in our area.0 -
Nothing covers heartworms, fleas AND ticks (though our rep told us it is in the making)
Trifexis is heartworms, intestional parasites and fleas (no tick prevention)
Frontline Plus is fleas and ticks (no heartworm protection)0 -

Thanks. Jessie was on Interceptor for the HW and other intestinal parasites and the Frontline Plus for fleas/ticks. Was curious about the Trifexis because I've never used an oral flea repellant before.0 -
We havent had any complaints of fleas from any of our patients on Trifexis and the fleas are really bad here this year.0
