Is it true that when you eat clean and healthy for awhile and then one day give into a small amount of unhealthy sugar (ie. chocolate peanut butter cup), your body will hold on to it? I just want to know and have a better understanding how extreme I need to go in order to lose and keep the weight off.

    No.

You don't need to go to any extremes.

You need to eat in an energy deficit.
You should probably eat mostly whole and nutrient dense foods.
You should probably concern yourself with adequate protein and fat intake.
You should probably keep treats to a reasonable level but there is no need to completely remove anything from your diet unless you are unable to keep those to a healthy minimum without binging.
  • Bump. I want to know the same thing.

I know the... "I Don't Know" responses are annoying and I can say that I don't honestly know with 100% fact... but that sounds completely illogical to me.. I've read a lot on topics as such because who doesn't like sweets??? Lol.
If you're exercising well and eating good normally you should be fine. I have had quite a few "cheats" here and there while I've been doing this insanity program and it doesn't seem to have had an adverse effect on me. At the same time I've had active communication with different coaches and they all say the same thing.
You shouldn't deprive yourself anyhow because you just might mentally freak out and end up completely binging out on some sweets just from the frustration of not having them.

Your hormones don't know it's just calories in calories out.

To the OP, the 1st response was great advice.
