they say 1 in 1000 people die from having gastric bypass surgery

What about the serious obese people who do not have the surgery and die from heart attacks, etc?

Good article; puts things into perspective.

Obesity is one risk factor for heart attacks; there are quite a few others: http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4726

One of my friends had a heart attack before he was 50; he was in a healthy weight range and he ran every day - in fact he had the heart attack while running. His diet was abominable; his cholesterol it turned out was off the scale. Just goes to show you that weight alone is not an indicator of good health.

Thank you for sharing, very interesting! I've struggled my whole life with weightloss and have paid hundreds of dollars for the pills and fad diets they talk about. Now that I'm counting calories, the weight seems to be falling off, but of course, it's only my 1st week!
