Yes it annoys me a great deal. I have a couple size 7/8's that I can fit into perfectly and then a few more that are the "same size" that I can't even get my butt into. Then I have some size 9/10's and 11's that I can't even get into. It just makes me go cross-eyed just thinking about it. Lol. I hate that I have to try on every single pair of pants before buying them just to make sure they fit right.

I bought a pair of 9s that fit perfectly so I grabbed another pair is another color. Super tight! I was so frustrated! Trying to make it so I fit the the second pair comfortably.

YES! This is soooo frustrating. I have learned this lesson the hard way several times. Thinking I can just walk into a store, pick something off the rack and it'll fit perfectly when I try it on at home...Only to find out it's too tight :explode: Now that I'm losing weight, I always make sure to try clothes on at the store to ensure I don't buy anything that will not fit. I hate that sizes run differently depending on the manufacturer. I have also learned which sizes fit best at each store I usually shop. I have never fit nicely into a pair of Old Navy jeans. I don't buy them EVER.

Same here! Old Navy jeans don't look right on me at all.

The best pair i EVER bought, I got at a thrift store for $3.00. Can't remember the brand...but they fit fabulously.

Old Navy is the worst for me with their sizing! All of my jeans in my closet are a size 8....with the exception of 4 pairs from Old Navy- they are a 12. Funny thing is that their workout capris I own are a Small. SMH.

Yup this really annoys me too. I can go shopping almost anywhere for the hubby and the cloths always fit. Do the same for me - and well most go back. Why can woman's sizes (and for that matter materials - don't get me on my soapbox!) be the same?

You always have to try on sizes at Old Navy. I complained about this once to my aunt and she gave me some insight into how clothes are made. The fabric is stacked and cut in mass, so depending on where it is in the stack, it will be dead-on accurate, or could be bigger/smaller. Old Navy mass produces clothes in order to make them cheaper, so I'd imagine they use pretty big stacks of fabric, which would account for the variety of fits within one size.

Lol. I went into a shop when I was a teen and picked out a size 10 and size 12 jeans to try on. Neither fitted. I thought that's strange. Picked up a 14. Didn't fit. Picked up a 16...didn't fit! Then I just got angry and left the shop! At the time I was a perfect 10 in every other place!

I wear an 8 in most stores. grabbed a pair of 8's in these one pair of jeans, tried them on and they were way too big but I liked them, so I just bought the 6 without trying them on. When I got home and put them on, they were too big!! lol so I went back and got the 4s which fit perfectly, but what the hell? I know I'm not a 4. I, too, am severely annoyed by the lack of consistency in jean sizes.

Old Navy has several different styles. I always try mine on before I leave the store!

Men's pants are sized by two numbers, and they have less variation in that physical area than women do. What's up with that?

Well obviuosly the one wqas a smaller size. That is really great that you went down to a smaller size Jewel Girl !!

i hear ya! i just went to old navy last weekend looking for jeans. two different jeans of the same size didn't fit the same. pretty annoying. what i hate even more is when the smaller size for instance the 8 is too small and the next one up the 10 is too big. that happens at old navy sometimes...but i love the store and will continue to return.

Every style is different and it is so frustrating and it doesn't stop at jeans. Just last week I had to buy new bras and as I have changed so much I made a point to try on a few to make sure I had the right fit. Once I was sure I had the right size I picked that one and grabbed one more but of a different style (stupid me didn't try it on) and the second one didn't fit. Would be one entire cup size up to wear that style. Why? I couldn't even find that style in that size. :grumble:

Women's clothing is really frustrating. I firmly believe that there must be gremlins shrinking them up RIGHT before I try them on in the store. I always try stuff on because I'm so used to everything NOT fitting. I've gotten to a point where I usually pick two stores and stick with their clothing. Right before my ten year wedding anniversary trip, I bought stuff from Lucky Brand jeans, but while I was there, I tried on their jeans. I wore a size up than the jeans I was wearing that day from the Gap. Well, just yesterday (25 pounds later) I picked up a pair of Lucky Brand jeans at costco in the size I got from American Eagle (another store that runs about one size up for me than the Gap), and those suckers wouldn't even close around my waist! I'm hoping they're mislabeled or something!!

So rather than fight the increasingly depressing merry-go-round of sizing, I stick with two stores. I like the Gap (and really, who DOESN'T like being able to say they fit a smaller size?? ), and now I've found I really like American Eagle jeans. Oddly enough, Gap jeans used to look awesome on me, but I'm finding that the cut/style of the other jeans are really looking better. (Heck yeah, I celebrated the fact that I got my butt into skinny jeans!!), so I think AE is going to be my new "jean store". Even IF they're a size larger than my Gap ones.

Women's clothing is ridiculous. BUT. I totally tell MYSELF and others (if I get asked, I don't go around volunteering this information) that I'm the smaller size from the Gap. Because, eventually, I will be that same size all over!! I'm still losing, and magically, those gremlins who used to go into my closet and make all my cute clothes too tight are now making my new clothing too loose. And I'm JUST FINE with that!
