I am constantly binging and then then dieting. I only have 10 pounds to lose. I suppose it boils down to the fact that I'm not motivated enough.

Can people help me with some reasons why I can convince myself to stay on track.

Sorry, you are the only one who can motivate yourself. It all comes down to how badly you want to reach your goals and what you're willing to do to get there.

You have to convince yourself to stay on track, it's your life.

Hey there, I can relate to the binge/diet cycle as I was stuck in that for a long time. I just wanted to clarify that this is a really tricky cycle to be in but one thing I've learned about really tough stuff to overcome is that action precedes motivation. What I mean is that, often people think, "I can/will want to do xyz when I feel better...more motivated..etc." but it's interesting the way motivation and self-esteem work. They tend to follow action. And I know action is not easy. It might be helpful to take a mindful step back and honestly ask yourself why you are binging. Are you bored, lonely, sad, angry, tired, really hungry when you binge? I think that might be a good starting point. It is not an easy behavior to look at; examining it definitely pulled up feelings of anger and shame but in hindsight it was essential in order to balance my eating so that I began eating healthful amounts of food. And that balanced my emotions. Again, this is not easy- it takes time and some self-compassion. I hope you find a peaceful balance.
  • I second the comment about you needing to find that motivation within yourself.... however, maybe you will find that other people stories or experiences of motivation will give you some direction or things to think about or things to do. :)

I've been 'stuck' at my current weight for 3 years. Not my 'happy weight' but not 'overweight' either. My motivation is that I look in the mirror and I see how my clothes fit, and it makes me sad. I look at pictures of me from 7 years ago, and I like the way I look, and I remember feeling happier and healthier overall. I hate dieting. Hate it hate it hate it. So my plan this time around is 'baby steps'. Who cares if the weight falls off right away? What is important is that I make small changes in my food intake.... focus on small manageable things that don't seem too restrictive or 'diet like'. Once those things become habit.... start with some other small thing to change or incorporate.

Another thing that I have found that helps overall is journalling. When you write down something negative - you start thinking of ways to improve the situation.... which makes those negatives seem like something you can overcome. When you write down something positive - you can read and reread it and those positives gain their own energy. Sounds a little hinky at first.... but there is something to it.

Good luck with your path.... although we can't give you motivation to succeed... just by being on here it a step toward making changes in your life. :)

You can do it! Try to think of the things that will happen if you DON'T take action and reach your goals. What is the cost? Will your confidence be down? Will you not take actions in other areas of your life? Associate some pain to NOT taking action. THEN, ask yourself what you will GAIN when you take action: more confidence, better health, bragging rights? This might be a good place to start. Then remind yourself of these things often, and get to work!

Remember: Starting IS the hardest part. Bodies in motion, stay in motion.

Others are right. You are the only one who can motivate yourself. You say you only have 10lbs but maybe there's a reason you aren't motivated...maybe overall you aren't too concerned with losing the 10lbs? Or someone else set the goals.

For me, I just want to be able to fit in cuter clothes and look better and be healthy...but I have over 80lbs to lose. The motivation is a little bit more difficult to stay motivated now that over half is gone.

Are you eating too much junk food, going out to eat, or what? If it's just what you eat, perhaps find choices you like just as much but limit what you have...snack throughout the day or something...
