Turkey Bacon

I've only tried turkey bacon once--and didn't like it at all. I'm thinking I should give it a second chance though. This may sound silly, but I don't know much about the stuff. Do different brands taste different/better or do they, for the most part, all taste the same? If they do taste different, what brand do you like?

I love turkey bacon, and love Butterballs. Ive tried a few others and hated them, Butterball was the one that stuck with me.0

turkey bacon is heavily processed. get the real stuff. more fat per serving but thats not a bad thing if you budget your macros right.0

Yes, different brands do have different textures and flavorings. The only brand of turkey bacon I like is Butterball. Additionally, it must be cooked very crispy to make it more bacon-like.0

I would agree -- my family hates turkey bacon and I would much rather allow for less of the real thing. I can substitute turkey for a lot of things but this just isn't it.0 -

This.
super true.
I despise pork and cannot stand the taste in any form, so I have been eating turkey bacon. Good to see that it is processed too much, I will stop buying it. I didn't like it too much anyhow. Just wanted to appease the bacon gods. :laugh:0 -
its not bacon.
Have the real thing if you need it... its not that bad calorie wise!0 -
I would just grab a low fat pork bacon. It has less calories than turkey bacon and tastes the same as full fat bacon.0

Butterball low sodium is my fav. Everyone in my family says it tastes like rubber but I can't stand to eat real bacon & all the fat on it. Makes me gag.0

I like turkey Bacon. We buy the Oscar Meyer one from Costco.
It, by no means, tastes as good as PORK. But we have grown to like it.0 -

I personally enjoy smoked turkey breast for breakfast. I buy a whole one, slice it and brown/heat it quickly and serve it with my eggs. Doesn't have the "bacon" feel, but it's a great addition to the plate...0 -
Turkey Bacon is yummy!! I love when my BF cooks is a little crispy!! MMMMM!!0

In the UK we get 'bacon medallions' which tend to be pretty low in fat.0

Personally, it didn't appeal to me when I saw it in the store. Looked processed, ground up and reassembled or something like that. I know a few folks who really like it though. Not for me.0

If you can find it, you might want to try chicken bacon. I find that the taste is very similar to real bacon. It also gets crispier than turkey bacon.0

I buy Applegate Naturals turkey bacon. Ingredients: turkey, water, less than 2% of sea salt, celery powder, maple sugar, onion powder, spices. That's it. No casein, no gluten, no antibiotics, no animal byproducts, no nitrites, no nitrates. Made from whole thigh meat and retains the meat texture. NOT pulverized into powdered turkey scraps and pressed into a slab like most turkey bacon.
Per slice (about 1oz)
Cals- 35
Total Fat- 1.5g
Cholesterol- 25mg
Sodium- 200mg
Protein- 6g
Carbs- 0g
And it is delicious.0 -
We dont have turkey bacon here in Aus that i have seen..i just eat the real thing, limit it to a 50g serve with a poached egg then off to the gym!0

I like turkey bacon way better than regular bacon - to me, it tastes better and it's way less greasy. I buy either Butterball or PC Blue Menu.0

I prefer pork bacon, but I have some turkey bacon from Trader Joe's that isn't bad...if I cook it in coconut oil :laugh:0

I love Lillydale's Daystarters Turkey Bacon Slices you can see pieces of meat in the slices. So this stuff hasn't been grounded into a paste and then extruded into bacon like slices. Hey at 25cal a piece you got to like it.0

I did the turkey bacon for a while, couldnt find a brand that really made me happy although I like turkey sausage.
I then started buying the Kroger Private Selection Center Cut Bacon (25 calories per slice). It has a bit more fat than the turkey bacon but I am always under on my fats, so I can do 3 slices to make a great BLT sandwich with home-grown tomatoes, etc. It does cost more than the regular bacon with tons of fat, but worth it to me so I dont have to go back to the turkey stuff.
Also, I fix mine in the microwave in a bacon microwave pan that allows the bacon to cook and the fat to drip off into the pan.0 -
My husband hates it.
To me, it is ok, but reminds me of ham not bacon. It does not get crisp, at least it didn't the couple of times that I made it.0 -
It's not as good for you as you think.. But if you're going to have it, the key is to get it crispy.0
-
I like butterball. but turkey bacon you really have to make crispy. otherwise i don't like it. for some reason, walgreens usually sells butterball turkey bacon cheapest0
-
I tried Butterball turkey bacon. It's not terrible and certainly not bacon. I'd prefer to eat the real stuff.0
-
IF you are able to eat pork, then I would never switch to turkey bacon. It's simply not worth it.0

We like the HEB-brand Jalapeño bacon. Cook it on our Forman grill and all the fat runs off. YUMMY. Thumbs down for turkey bacon.0
