HI all,

I am going to ride my bike on the track today. How long should I ride it? Or how many miles should I ride it? Thanks for your help!!

For as long and as far as you feel like (assuming that there aren't others using the track who object - is it a 400m running track or a bike track?)

It's really up to you and your current level of fitness. I've never ridden on a track so I have no idea how mind numbing it may be after a little while but in terms of cardiovascular fitness you should be getting your heart rat up for a minimum of 20 minutes at least 3 times per week (that may even be an outdated guideline....) more is better.
  • Brian brings up an issue that struck me as a concern as well: mind-numbing rides. I love my bike and I enjoy the rides that I go on, but I likely wouldn't if it were on a track. You may have some local trails you can access or safe road routes. Have you checked around for a rails-to-trails project you might be able to ride on? The changing scene will a lot to keep your interest and make the time pass in a pleasant way. Our local trail rarely fails to produce a few deer along the path and other friendly wildlife, along with nice scenery and fresh air to boost the mood.

Ask at a local bike shop about popular local rides, either road or trail routes and their recommendations for where you can get the most out of your bike. They'll know.
