I am a low carb eater - so I buy Atkins shakes and Atkins Advantage Bars for those I-just-don't-have-time-to-deal-with-preparing-food-right-now meals.

I also buy flax seed and soy flour to make low carb bread at home

And I buy fresh veggies and lots of protein

One last thing: sugar free jello-O (and whipping cream and Splenda) so I can have a sweet something on hand.

Mostly it depends on what approach you take to eating, I guess.

    chicken breast
    baby mixed greens
    non fat plain yogurt
frozen fruit is no friesh looks good

Those are really my must haves. Chicken can be made so many ways. My favorite right now is drizzles with just a little EVOO and lots of pepper then bake. I make a batch up to grab anytime. I love to toss in with my mixed greens and banana peppers. The yogurt I eat with the frozen fruit if no fresh looks good. Or use in a smoothie for a quick breakfast.

    Wild salmon + swiss chard.

Salmon has the healthy fatty acids, protein, and is definitely a superfood. Swiss chard has potent antioxidants and also supports carbohydrate metabolism. Put the two together and you will notice a healthy difference :)

I stay natural...bananas, oatmeal, go-gurts for the kids, yogurt for me and the husband. Not sure if you cook...but whole chickens go really far if you're willing to put in the effort. I have a family of 5, work and study and I still manage to make all our meals.

Whole wheat breads, natural peanut butter and natural jams. My kids love peanut butter, banana and raw honey sandwiches on whole wheat.

Ground turkey or chicken is a major staple in our house. We use it for tacos, spaghetti with whole wheat pasta. Also in the pasta sauce I puree a few carrots, zucchini, celery and a little spinach and simmer it in the sauce. The kids don't even know it's there. You can do the same for a chili recipe.

Another cheap thing is fat free refried beans. Great protein and I just make a quick bean and cheese burrito with it.

Egg salad sandwiches are cheap too. For the husband and yourself, try making it with salsa instead of mayo. surprisingly it's very tasty.

There's not much I buy in the freezer aisle or any of the middle aisles. But just taking a few step at a time in the right direction is a start!

If you eat a balanced diet, I wouldn't waste your money on supplements. You should be able to get everything you need from the food you eat.

If I HAD to buy only 5 food items, this is what they would be:
    -wheat bread
    -milk
    -eggs
    -bell peppers
    -bananas
