Hi, I joined a couple of weeks ago and I'm trying to lose weight which has been gained steadily over the years and now at 47 is more difficult to remove. Having been slim all my life, the last 10 years classed as 'fat' has made me into a different person, one I wish to change. I have a very full social life due to the job & location of where I live. I work for a holiday company but I live on an island off West Africa and have numerous friends visiting at any one time. Consequently my nights are busy with dining out & drinking so it makes it very difficult dieting. Due to the hours I work I find it difficult to exercise as my free time is also the hottest time of the day so I need to think of not only how I can incorporate exercise into my life but also alter my food/drink intake so I can still be able to socialise but without compromising losing weight. Any tips greatly received.

I've found I can eat out with friends and still make good choices at most restaurants. Example: recently some friends and I went to a seafood restaurant because the person celebrating his birthday liked the "endless shrimp" special they have there. Shrimp are low in fat, low in calories so they can be a good choice ... I avoided the butter and cheese loaded biscuits they bring before the meal; asked for extra steamed veggies with the meal; drank water with my meal; avoided the fried and breaded varieties of shrimp; and said "No thank you" when they brought the dessert menu.0

Hi, your life does sound a little hectic but.....
Using this website will help you with your calorie intake and although you eat out a lot you will soon get to know how healthy the meals are by logging them and if you make a not so healthy choice one day hopefully you will choose better the next until it is normal. As for the exercise.... sorry if I sound tough (and I also need a swift boot up the butt) if you have been living there a while I'm sure your used to the heat by now... if the afternoons REALLy is your only time off then I'm afraid you will just have to crack on. Start by walking with a huge bottle of waterand slowly increase it, if you have an airconned gym start using that or use swimming as your exercise (if local of course)
Hope this helps and I know it's always easier said than done, good luck and feel free to add me x0 -
Thanks for the words of encouragement and the tough words- they are what I need! I went for a swim today with the other half as he is trying to lose weight also. I have no excuse not to do this on a regular basis as the beach is practically on the door step. I'm going to try and do little & often such as a walk in the early evening when it's getting cooler and try & swim at least 3 times per week.
I've swapped beer for wine but need to cut down on the quantity of this also because of the sugar content.0
