Workout Suggestions?

So, I recently had an epiphany. . . Being more active (and, obviously, eating right) is the key to being healthy. I've traded sleeping in for Jazzercise, evening TV for walks, and lazy Sundays for hinking. I've heard a lot about P90X and Insanity and all these "amazing" workout programs, but are there any to get me from where I'm at currently to there?
The few people I know who jumped right in to P90X with no previous workout program gave up because it was too hard. I want to set myself up for success, not failure. Please help!

Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred workout DVD is a good place to start.0

Power 90 or Power 90M .... are supposed to be "older" lighter versions of P90X0

I agree with Jillian Michaels being a great choice, but for me it was Tennis. I loved the action and the competition of tennis and what a workout! I burn over 1,000 calories every time I play and it's loads of fun. Plus city or school tennis courts are open to the public for free, so that's a definite plus. Swimming is another good choice, but that's a little more based on if you have access to a pool.0

First of all, your dog is adorable.
Now to your question... I would suggest Power90 (the stepping stone to P90X), Turbo Jam (both of these are from BeachBody.com), Zumba, or Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred (I bet you could find this cheap on Amazon.com). I am not a big "video-worker-outer" but I run a lot and used to do Cross Fit so I was OK with P90X off the bat; however, for beginners I highly suggest those 3.

Hi! I started out a lot like you, unfit without much experience working out. I'm currently doing Power 90 (http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/power90.do) exercise program and I really love it. It's really a great program as a beginner because it pushes you, but the workouts are simple enough and easy to modify so you can learn them easily when you're starting out. Another great thing about P90 is that is requires very limited equipment (dumbells or resistance bands) to do it at home.0

Try it, and modify at your own pace. I do bootcamp twice a week and I've never experienced "such pain" in my life. Good pain. I didn't think I could do it, but it's amazing where my body can take me. My coach even tells me I've come a long way in a short amount of time.0

Jillian's "Making the cut" book is good too. The book teaches you correct postures and methods of doing exercises to reduce your risk of injury.
Something to try to is to set a goal of trying one new exercise class per week or month if every week is too aggressive. After a while you've exposed yourself to so many "moves" you can incorporate these on your walks and hikes to make those activities full body workouts! the best thing to do is get your body moving in ways other than forward.

I started with 30 day shred and it has been great for me. I started working out this past January and I find myself going back to 30 day shred 3 or 4 times a week.0

I did Jillian's 30 Day Shred for a month before jumping into Insanity. That worked great for me.0

It's free, and I got a MUCH better workout with this than with Power 90. I honestly never tried P90X or anything by Jillian Michaels because I've always found Jillian incredibly annoying and Tony Horton only slightly less so...

My wife is a graduate of Insanity and Asylum, and she gets a good workout from some of the FItnessBlender stuff.
There are plenty of good programs out there, but I honestly can't bring myself to shell out a ton of cash when there is so much stuff available on the Internet. If I WAS to purchase a program, I did Chris Freytag's 10 Pound Slimdown when it was free on FitTV. I wouldn't mind owning that and the follow-up (10 Pound Slimdown Extreme).
