Depleting milk production while breastfeeding.

I am 7.5 months post partum and have been diagnosed with slight depression. I put on 55 lbs with me second child and still have 30 to lose. I am very down about my weight and as a result of the weight on my body have developed s stress fracture in my foot - making it difficult to work out. The Dr suggested I stop nursing so I can set the hormones straight and get my body back. However I have a huge supply of milk and are prone to mastitis. I started to wean from nursing, by cutting out one feeding and as a result I developed mastitis for the 4th time. My question to you is, if I stop eating carbs and fats, which I believe adds to milk production, will my milk production begin to deplete? Thanks for your help.

I would just cut your calories down and your milk production will go down. I would also pump and feed through a bottle so you can control your weaning better. Like pump 7oz each pump, then 6oz, then 5oz and so on every couple of days. I had a HUGE milk supply (40+ a day with both kids) and couldn't just wean normally without problems and this worked wonders for me. Good luck!0
