Zumba Oaf

Sooooo.... i went to my first Zumba class....
When DOES one stop feeling like a lumbering waterbuffalo in the middle of a bunch of pixies?

Wow that was tough, but i'm going again, because it's loud music, it's happy people, it's inspiration....

Yep! That's why I workout at home.
  • I felt the same way at first, but then I realized the key to succeeding in Zumba is to not give a *kitten* about what you look like. Just have fun! You're doing something great for your body, and NOBODY is a perfect dancer, lol. :)

Smh. I understand. I use to go to Zumba classes and even though I was always bigger than a lot of the people I didn't care! I was there to dance and have fun. They complimented me on how fast I learned the dances and said I was doing it better than them. (I gladly took the compliments LOL) Your there to have fun, sweat and go home LOL. I wouldn't care what they thought of me or how I looked.

my instructor always starts the class with "everyone get in your bubble before we begin"...meaning we dance in our own bubble and nobody can see us...just keep on moving. i've been doing zumba for years and can tell you that one day you will get it and you will know the steps to the songs that your instructor plays and you'll feel more and more confident each time you go back...so just keep on going back. zumba fitness is fun and the music is great!!

  • Give it a couple of classes and you will be on top of the dance moves. I love going makes me feel like a dancing queen and never a work out. Even though some times the teacher likes to throw in surprises.

I LOVE Zumba! Keep at it, you will definitely get it. Everyone has given you some great advice and remember, everyone was new once and had to learn the steps just like you. It's definitely a workout and it's fun!!! All the best to you!

I had a hard time making it to the classes because of the schedule. Therefore, I bought Zumba for the Wii and I love it. It's a great burn and I love the music. The high tempo is fabulous!

I felt this way yesterday in my class. I'm really tall and not very graceful and when I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror I had a vision of what Herman Munster would look like if he were doing Zumba.

I've been doing Zumba classes for 9 months and I still feel like that sometimes! LOL ... it really does get better though. It took me about 4 or 5 classes to feel more comfortable... aka: not be bright red during the hip shaking moves ;)
  • Just have fun and enjoy the music.
  • I do samba and salsa at home... and my parrot laughs at me.... (that should give you an idea of how bad i am at it)

I like that :) I think I may use that from now on when I working out and feel like giving up.

Tried Zumba a couple times. I bought the DVD's and did it my house. I felt like I was doing it wrong the entire time. Now a friend has them :-/ It's probably a lot more fun in a group. I say keep doing it, though. No one knows everything the first time they try something. Besides, it's better than nothing, right?

346 lbs here and tried my first zumba class a few weeks ago, and I am totally addicted. I dont care what anyone thinks of what i look like while i am there. Its helping me lose weight and its a blast. Its so enjoyable it really doesnt feel like excercise. When you find exercise you love doing you will do it more often. If i can do it, anyone can!!!

p.s DOWN 22lbs in the past month doing zumba and curves circuit!!!

One of my instructors says it gets easier every time. I really do believe that's true. Until they throw in like five news songs in one class. It's great though - keep going!

Keep with it- it gets easier! It's helped me to lose 37 lbs, 5 " in my waist and 4" in my hips... since June 2012  I'm hooked!

    LOVE ZUMBA!!!!
My advice get the feet down first, then the arms..keep it up!
  • I've been going for a little over a year now, you start to feel better about it after about 4 classes and if you keep the same instructor you will get the moves down. I used to hide in the back corner and trip over my own two feet now I'm in the front row. I still feel like a spaz when we are learning a new song but no one is looking at you they are all looking at the instructor trying to keep up! I download zumba songs and work out at home and manage 2 classes a week most weeks. The Wii game is fun until you go to class. The class ruined the game for me! The energy in the room is infectious and you can't get that on your TV! <3 Have fun and enjoy yourself!!!!!

I started taking Zumba class recently. I know exactly how I feel. After couple of classes, I have realized that I am there for myself and not for anyone else. I am there to enjoy, have fun and get my workout done. If I look like an elephant or a water buffalo to someone...so be it. I don't care what the world thinks of me because I am there with one purpose and one purpose only i.e to improve myself. I feel so good after the class that I anxiously wait for the next week class. Have fun. Good luck.
