I am 25 and I need to lose about 100 pounds. It is so hard trying to lose weight. I feel like its an addicition sometimes. Does anyone have any tips that might help speed this process along without completely starving myself!

First you have to change your diet to healthy diets and count your calories as close as to your targeted calories. Try to eat more raw food instead of processed food. I suggest for faster results to do Cardio workouts or HIIT training but if it's harder you can always start out with walks first!

All in all, losing weight will take time. Don't become upset that it is not losing as fast as you want it. Everyone loses it differently and if you see some loses faster than you don't be discouraged. Good luck!

The sooner you start eating sensibly and working out the sooner you will start losing. This isn't a diet, its a life style and there really isn't a way to lose 100lbs in a hurry. This is a great site and if you follow the directions here you will lose weight, not be hungry and make lots of friends.

    Hi Aprilnicole,
Well first of all WELCOME. Girl i definietly can relate and know how hard it is but, i can tell you its sooo worth it. I have about 80 pounds to lose myself. First suggestion would be to get on a few sites that give healthy recipes. I personally really like Skinnytaste and Hungry Girl they send weekly emails if you sign up or you can just check in and get GOOD recipes for free. My favorite is Skinnytaste which i got turned onto from Pinterest. The recipes are easy and super yummy.
2nd suggestion if possible get a friend, family member, or co-worker in on the healthy change with you. Its always easier if you have support. And yes you're right it is an addiction. Food addiction is one i have struggled with forever and therapy helped also b/c i have gone yo-yo with my weight for years.
Lastly find an excercise you like. Walking is awesome (and free), i love Zumba but, there are classes for everyone and all interests these days. Best of luck to you and remember one day at a time. We dind't put on the weight over night and we can't expect to take it off over night (wouldn't that be nice).
    Nic :)

DON'T try and speed it along. Find your biggest struggle, and battle that one first. For years I thought more exercise would help me loose weight, and since I like to be active, it was easier to do --- well, more exercise meant I ate more, and also gave me the false hope that I could eat whatever I wanted because I exercise! Since joining MFP (I set my loss to 1lb / week) I choose to focus on my eating first! I was on for 2 months before I committed to regular exercise, and I lost weight.

I'm not saying don't exercise - but for me, I knew I struggled most with food.... so I focused on getting that in order before exercising. I know I am averaging slightly under 1lb/week, but I also know that every change I made, has formed a good habit. and the other thing - you will have days that you dont' eat the way you should, don't dwell ont, just make the very next choice a better one. Finally, I learned the protien I ate in the mornign hours - helps curb the hunger all day (I also eat every 2-3 hours).

    Good luck!
  • I understand what you mean by addiction. For me, sugar is my drug, and the only way I can lose weight is to eliminate it. I know I can't have "just one" soda or cookie. And unless I eliminate that stuff I crave it all the time, and it's the undoing of my healhty eating habits. My best advice is take it one day at a time, track everything you eat, and start moving. This is a great site -- you will get lots of information about food choices and tons of support from others! Good luck!

Don't feel like you have to deprive yourself of the things you enjoy. Instead you need to learn how to make some small adjustments to make your eating healthier (like have a fruit with your sandwich instead of chips) and keep your portions in check. And to make up the difference, exercise on a regular basis. It's been slow going for the last year but I keep losing eventhough I still eat chocolate, pizza etc.

I've been there...every diet I tried before failed beasue I thought I had to cut out all the foods I love.! And I was always jealous because my "skinnier" friends seemed to be able to eat what they wanted and stay lean. Then I figured it out! I can do what they do and eat right and be active 80-90% of the time and then those little indulgences (little being the operative word here - again, portion control) won't be such a big deal. So now I have a couple small pieces of chocolate in the afternoon instead of practically living on sugar. Plus, you'll come to realize that it's not worth the after effects when you over indulge. I noticed that if I keep my food healthier, I don't get those huge sugar spikes followed quickly by major lows in energy. If you eat right, your energy should stay at a pretty even keel.

    Good luck!
