Do you consider a "cheat day" or "cheat meal" one that:

a) you don't include in your weekly calorie allottment, or goes over your calories, or

b) is within your calories, but is just not the healthiest choice.

I am always confused when people talk about cheat days.

For me a cheat day means that the food is unhealthy (i.e. nachos, beer, fries) and by eating an entire serving of it, I'll be over calories for the day.
  • I like to cycle my calories. So some days im way below my allowance, on other days im above (in the red). I usually save my "cheat" meals for the days I plan to cycle above my allowance. Things like Pad thai, chinese, burgers, etc. I still count the calories of course.

I still plan to stay under my weekly allowance.

HOWEVER- somedays I have a real CHEAT day where i do not count calories. Usually for special events like a wedding or birthday or trip. But that's only for special occasions.

Cheat meals for me are more "fun meals" than cheating. Because, how is it cheating if you build it into your plan.

So, every sunday I take a day off. It's my SundayFunday I have a set # of calories I won't go over, which will allow my average for the week be a resonable amount. My rules... I can eat what I want, as long as 3 of my 5 meals are normal sizes, and normal healthy eating.

So, for me, a true "cheat" meal would be a day when it was not in the plan, and I either eat outside of calories or eat outside of plan.
