Hello all...wondering if anyone else has the issue I'm having. I am Type 2 Diabetic, and switched my HORRIBLE diet over to whole grains, almonds and nuts for snacks...and then ended up in the hospital for 4 days with Diverticulitis. Would greatly appreciate any input, diet suggestions, food suggestions from anyone else who has this quandry...Thank you!!

I hope you are feeling better, and I share your frustration. It's very tricky to balance diabetes and diverticulosis. When I'm having a flare (as I am now) I don't worry so much about the blood sugar, since I don't consume very many calories on a pure liquid diet. During "normal" eating, I added fiber as one of the nutrients I track, and I shoot for 18 grams a day. I add a scoop of benefiber (2-3 tsp) a day to my coffee or protein shake for breakfast. Plus, I have a kale salad once a week, and raw carrots or some other raw veggie at least once a week. Every bread or grain (pasta, rice, etc) in our house is whole grain. I also sneak oat bran into EVERYTHING. Quinoa is a wonderful grain that tastes pretty good, is high in fiber and low glycemic. Brown rice, wild rice, red rice..all are good.
I tried chia seeds for the soluble and insoluble fiber, and they caused my current flare up.
Try carrots or celery and hummus for snacks. You can buy individual packets of hummus at Costco if portion control is an issue for you. Apples with peanut butter or cheese are also a great snack. You can also make your own "lunchable" with low fat turkey, low fat cheese and melba toast, pita chips, tortillas cut in bite-size pieces, etc. A friend of mine just cuts up a bunch of low fat ham or cheese into a ziploc and uses that as her snack.
I find having something to drink always on hand helps me. I have a Brita filter pitcher in my office at work and keep a 24-ounce tumbler full. If I get hungry, I try to drink the water first, then go for a 90-calorie Fiber One or Special K bar (great tasting, low calorie and extra fiber).
Just remember that every time you eat fiber, drink water, or all that fiber will get--like Flick's tongue on a cold flagpole--STUCK!!0
