I have been at this for over a year now and there were definitely times in my journey when i slipped into "unmotivated" mode... just wondered what do you notice tends to start that feeling for you? have you had a part of your journey start to go that way?

right now i feel pretty motivated but i know a few months ago i was really struggling with motivation. still managed to workout but didn't want to eat well at all.

sometimes i get "comfortable" with how i look or feel and even though i know if i start eating bad and not exercising that feeling is going to go away but i do it anyway.

and other times i just make excuses to be lazy and to justify cramming junk in my face.

but here lately ive also been on a really motivational streak and it feels nice :)

I think that was what happened to me too. I was tired of my routine and wanted to give myself some freedom. but i gave myself too much freedom with my diet. Then I was eating over 2000 calories for weeks and sure enough i gained weight!

This is such a good topic, I wonder it all the time too! I'm often so ready to work out and eat well but then BAM, it changes. I think for me it stems from losing control of a situation, such as going out to eat and not being able to get something healthy or out with friends when I'm surrounded by poor choices and I feel stuck. My biggest trigger, so obviously simple, is getting extremely hungry. I'm working on bringing snacks with me wherever I go to avoid this...and not eating the snacks unless I'm actually hungry, not just because they're there.

Emotions play a part for me too. If something doesn't go the way I want it to (a boy doesn't call, I'm feeling lonely, I occasionally turn to food. Though, I have gotten better about getting up and going to a yoga class or calling some family/friends. It's so unexpected how easily it shifts!
  • For me, it is definitely stress. Learning to cope with stress in a different way has been a real challenge. I am used to turning to food for comfort- definitely an emotional eater!! I also find that at that certain "time of the month" is also a huge challenge.
  • usually when i'm unhappy, like if i'm pissed off about something, i don't exactly have that OH YAY I THINK ILL GO FOR A NICE WALK or OMG LETS DANCE! :D but then again, recently i was pissed off at someone, but kept my mouth shut and walked to my gym instead of driving and worked out. first time i had ever done that, but my workout effort was the highest it'd ever been, and by the time i got back home i felt accomplished, proud, and a lot more calm.

usually i'd just shut myself away in my bedroom and lay there in the dark or something, or try to knock out and sleep it off.

so long as life is good and i'm happy, i can stay on track. so i've burned all the bridges i had with my friends, and am distancing myself from others, careful not to get too close. the last thing i need right now is a gf, don't need the stress and bs. sadly the last thing i need is what i want most again, haha. I figure, just let me work on myself, accomplish that, then i can go out on the prowl. watch me get all stressed with a new gf and eat my feelings HAHA... then i'll be back here!

I just get really lazy about exercising. My excuse not to would be I don't have time or I'll do it tomorrow. I like to track my calories even when I eat bad because afterwards my awareness of what I just ate is like a smack in the face. I do have cheat days (mainly on Friday and Saturday) and I think that is what keeps me positive and motivated. Not being too strict on myself helps me out. I just recently started exercising again (30 day shred) and am already feeling (emotionally and physically) the benefits from it.

stress, lazy, comfortable, time....I think it could be a number of things. I know for me, what is going on in my life determine when I get unmotivated.
