Hey everyone. I have decided to give up desserts of all kinds and alcohol of all kinds until I get to my goal weight. At which point I will allow myself to use in moderation if still desired.
I am looking for other people with the same goal so we can "do this together".
Note: Please don't comment about how I don't need to give up stuff..this is a lifestyle change..etc. I know this. I need to go cold turkey on this stuff, becuase it holds me back. It can find a place in my life when I am "maintaining" Thanks

I'll give it a shot with you. Dessert's no problem for me, but alcohol is another story0

i have not had alcohol for eight weeks it has been hard but have done it0

I've cut all alcohol from my diet. I found that when I drink (even 1 glass of wine with dinner) I want to EAT and I have no self control. I don't really dessert (i.e. cakes, cookies, pie, etc) either. My idea of dessert is some greek yogurt with maybe some frozen berries mixed in. Feel free to add me if you are okay with my take on dessert0

I'm with you!! I totally agree... at some point, I will have all these things in moderation. However, the empty calories in alcohol (especially wine) are totally holding me back and I've come too far to stop now. Would love someone with the same goal!0

I'm game. Sweets aren't a huge one for me *unless its pms time lol*
I do need to stop drinking beer though.
We can do this =]0 -
I am game. I need to eliminate both from my diet. Lots of help might be needed. Add me if you want my support and are willing to help me along.0

Great! To those of you that don't like dessert, "well la te da" lol just kidding. Alcohol, dessert, or both! Add me if you want0

I have not had alcohol since last night. Seriously, good luck on your goal.0

I gave up desserts, cookies, candy, sugar and artificial sweeteners in February. I do still eat fruit - fresh and dried and the only "dessert" I allow myself is frozen yogurt and dark chocolate (at least 70%) if I have to have some chocolate or go crazy. I think I miss the artificial sweeteners more than the sugar stuff because I was a diet Dr. Pepper junkie.
One thing giving up all these items did was made me realize how much of it I ate "just because".
I had a kidney transplant 3 years ago and at that time the doctors said drinking wasn't forbidden but they advised moderation. I was never a big drinker anyway so if I have 1 or 2 beers a month that's saying too much.
Good luck to you all in obtaining these goals. It is doable but it isn't always easy (as Hardiekim has discovered.)0 -

It's funny I don't normally eat either of those even though I've already achieved my goal. I went to a wedding last night and I consumed both of those and I noticed they are the very two items that took up most of my calorie budget yesterday. It's okay, I planned for it and it was an important family wedding. Since I'm at my goal already I'm supposed to be enjoying these things now. But I know I can't have that every day because it would blow me out of my maintenance calorie budget.
Anyway I thought it was funny because I commented to my friends on my profile this morning that those were the two very things made my calorie budget go over budget. I could see why it would be hard to achieve your weight loss goals while consuming those items.
It is a lifestyle change. I enjoyed having those items for a treat. I probably appreciate them more now that only do them on occasion.
So I say. Good for you!0 -

HEY! I typed that with a giant kit-kat hanging out of my mouth.
I'm not perfect! I'm sure I'm not the only girl that needs chocolate and grease during that week0 -

That is what I am hoping for. Something that is a once in awhile treat. Something I can "work off" at a trip to the gym. Thank you.0 -
I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, but it looks like I have an allergy to tree nuts (it's a miserable allergic reaction that is potentially serious if allowed to progress), So anyway, it kind of looks like I am not going to be able to eat desserts (since it's tough to find good desserts that do not have tree nut interaction). I also have a liver problem, that may be why the nut allergy is showing up so strongly now, so due to these circumstances it seems wise for me to avoid alcohol as well. So, it looks like I'm in a similar boat and I'm not even trying to lose weight. I'll still make some homemade healthy types of desserts probably., especially during the holidays. But, who knows. I guess this all depends on what is the outcome after I go to the doctor, see a specialist and get all the various testing done.
But, I just discovered my children's Annie's chocolate bunny grahams in the cabinets, and they seem like they may be safe. They are yummy. But, I can only eat a few because they are for my children's snacks.0
