I've always had issues with my weight. I was either way too thin, or way too fat. I think alot of it had to do with my self esteem ( or lack there of ) and pacifying myself with food to try to comfort or starving myself and over doing exercise as punishment. My pregnancies didn't help either, especially since I used it as my baby wants me to eat an entire cheesecake.

Growing up in a Spanish household I was always told to eat all the food on my plate. Also we constantly ate foods that were high in calories and fried. As a Dominican we would eat Platanos and Fried cheese for breakfast. Till this day when I go visit my mom she will cook this food for breakfast. So I think all that eating just caught up to me.

This subject always pops up... usually it can't be defined by just one reason.

As a kid and teen, I wasn't "fat" but definitely more curvy than most of the other girls. I've always carried my weight on my thighs and hips...even being called "thunder thighs" in middle school. :(

As an adult, in college I was eating poorly and drinking every weekend, which caused me to gain 30 pounds. I was able to lose that weight but then had kids and became a busy teacher.

I just had my second kiddo last December and I still eating like I was pregnant! I also love wine and food in general!!! I could eat and eat and eat and eat if someone let me. :/

I let myself indulce once a week, otherwise I would binge constantly.

Growing up I was always "chunky" but not really fat, I used food for comfort but I was active and played sports so I didn't get too big. When I was 13 my grandma passed away and after that, I stopped playing sports and used food as a crutch, I went from being just overweight to being obese in just 3 months after my grandma passed away, It has been almost 14 years and I am still struggling to get this weight off!

I got depressed and used a combo of booze, weed and food to self medicate. It was yummy and fun while it lasted

I was a naturally really skinny kid which lasted into most of my 20's. Then in my 30's, I assumed I could just continue eating the way I always did, but I think my metabolism either slowed down or I started eating more or both. I also didn't really discover that I liked alcohol until I got to my 30's and that has a ton of extra calories. I've never been overweight, but decided to stop the weight gain when I was 5 pounds from being overweight. Since I'm not a muscular person naturally and the weight goes to all the wrong places, even being 5 pounds from overweight looked bad on me.

My parents told me I was extremely skinny until I was around 5. Then they hired a full-time nanny and apparently she fed me too much, and I started to gain weight when I was in kindergarten. I grew up overweight, and now that I'm already 20, I thought it's time to lose all these weight.

The reason i got fat was because..... I just didn't care. I would just lay around and cuddle with my bf and we would eat. I call it HAPPY FAT! because of how i gained it. But it's time for it to go!!! Lol

I got too comfy in my relationship after geting married .

In addition I started a new position which kept me at my desk compared to my old position as a IT specialist fixing computers which kept me moving... then I started eating when I was board, and no one told me I was FAT.

But now..still happily married, still sit at a desk all day but don't eat when I'm board and I workout when I get home...

i love food and alcohol - i had no idea of moderation

Bout sums it up for me too Lmao

    LMAO, ditto ^^

No will power. If it taste good I want it. I will say that I also got lazy about cooking. I would just eat what the kids eat but not do the running around they did. :/ that didn't work out so well for me.

    I am a foodaholic
  • Depo Provera, lack of activity, comfortable relationship, love to eat, I'm a pretty good cook too - so that contributes to the love to eat problem, drinking (socially), eating (socially), living, loving, and enjoying life...

My base problem is that I am pretty hedonistic by nature - in the sense that I love things that feel good. I am overall a happy person. I have good friends and I know how to have fun. I am like a chunky little chocolate Bacchaus.

I am working towards having fun without food and booze. I want to cook dinner for 2 (for me and my hunni) not dinner for 22. I want to spend weekends taking walks and hitting the gym and not recovering from hangovers, cuddling, lounging, and snacking.

I need to learn to associate "fun" with other things besides food.

I went from 120 to 170 from having my first child. I craved everything sweet and fried and honestly I felt like I was going to cry if I didn't get it. LOL. I have never felt about food the way that I did when I was pregnant. I am the kind of person that can give up everything (when it comes to food) and it not phase me but it was impossible for me to not eat anything bad and be happy while I was pregnant. So I am getting back to my old self now that my son is 5 months old.... and I am finally starting to re-gain the energy I lost during pregnancy. I have a good schedule going for me and for him and I can't wait till he starts crawling so we can play games around the house together and play with toys. :) but I am afraid of getting pregnant again and I am not sure if it would be ok for my health.

Anytime I saw my family it was over dinner or going out to dinner. To hang out and interact with the ones you love meant to eat and drink. I also eat when I'm bored. I'm starting to realize that, and now I grab a book to read or drink water until I'm not hungry.

I just love to eat. I eat when I'm mad, sad, happy, stressed...

    It's a birthday...let's go out to eat!
Stressfull job....let me grab this good ol snack!

Some grab a beer, I grabbed a plate. lol
  • My body didn't agree with this high calorie diet that I was on, you see.

All jokes aside though, I'm a bored/emotional eater, and so when I wasn't in class, I was snacking on something not-so-nutritionally wholesome.

I finally had the money to buy enough food, and the time to sit down and eat it all

Exactly. And I also have learned I was a bit of an emotional eater.

    Boredom.
Come home from school, watch tv, eat food as I was watching tv so I wouldn't pay attention and soon I'd have eat a whole bag of chips for example, without thinking about it. Developed a soda and sugary foods addiction. Meal portions were huge in our family anyway....

In my case it "crept" up on me over about 10 years. Slowly enough that I could ignore and pretend it wasn't that bad.
  • I had 2 kids and I was eating out of boredom

I was always a strong guy that hid it very well. Food was comforting and I was not trying to please anyone but myself. I was also the smallest in my family, so seeing that made it not look so bad.

Love to eat, love to cook, comfortable in my marriage, love to feed my family, love to have a huge margarita when we go out to lunch or dinner ( which was about 3 days a week) and also love chardonnay, didn't do ANY form of exercise and didn't care to, loved to have a double Whopper with cheese and/or a Monster burger from Hardee's. I just loved to eat and have a few drinks and never thought about the calorie count in it!! That was then, those were the days LOL
