I have deprived myself of gummy lollies for so long and have been indulging in sugar free jell-o for quite some time now... only to discover recently that you can make gummy candy with it!? WAIT WHAT?

This is new to me and I've been on MFP for about 9 months, so in case you haven't heard of it, this is how it is apparently made -

3 envelopes unflavored gelatin
2 packages sugar-free jello, any flavors
1 cup boiling water

Directions:

1 Combine all ingredients until dissolved.
2 Line a tray with bake well (non-stick) paper and pour in.
3 Refrigerate until firm.
4 Cut into"worm-like" strips.

Mmmmmm I'm going to try this on the weekend. Sounds easy and I love the sugar free jelly flavours that I have at home. ^_^

I wonder what would happen if you replaced the unflavored gelatin with Agar? They might hold up more like a traditional gummy...might have to do some kitchen science this weekend :)

Anyone know how you could make them sour, like Sour Patch Kids?

To get them really sour like that, you would need to roll them in citric acid and sugar/sweetener.
  • Yes, thank you!!

Wonderful! I need to make this. Can anyone tell me what the weight is for the envelope of gelatine and the jello? It might be different in Australia.

Yes. Some kind of standard measure would make it possible for others to follow?

i don't know if this is a dumb question, but do I need to keep the finished product in the fridge?

put a whole bunch of straws tightly together in a cup. pour jello mixture from above into the straws. Let set. when set, remove jello from straws. Hello worms!

ok, i seem to be the first one trying this out..

i used a small pack of jelly (serves 4), and 20g of powdered gelatine. i'm not sure how my quantities measure up, i'm wondering now if i should have used less powdered gelatine. the mixture when very hot (i had to microwave it after adding the boiling water to get the last few lumps to dissolve) was syrupy, but not hugely thick.

i put it in a square dish approx 6" wide, which i lined with glad wrap to avoid it sticking.

waiting now for it to set. watch this space!

This sounds amazing! How much would 3 envelopes for gelatin be? I live in australia and not sure how many grams it is.
