I have a quick question about sugar. I go over my alloted amount of sugar pretty much everyday. Most of my sugar comes from real whole fruit. I eat very little refined sugar and I dont do juice. My question is.... is this okay or should I cut down on the amount of fruit I eat??

To be honest, I say you should cut back the fruits a little bit and eat them earlier in the day. Sugars good or bad still turn to fat, just like carbs (which fruit is full of) carbs turn to sugar and then to fat. I suggest eating half a serving of fruit and a service of veggies. Like some carrot sticks and half an apple. Everyone digests food differently. I only eat 1 serving of fruit a day and that is with breakfast. Cutting fruit down on your diet will not hurt you at all, some people don't eat it at all. I do hope you take a vitamin of some sort. Well wishes to you on your weight loss journey0

If you're not a diabetic and you're eating whole fruit, then it is not an issue.
Don't be fooled when people say carbs or sugar turns to fat. Excess calories turn to fat.
The great thing about whole fruit is that the sugar is bound with fiber, which makes it harder to digest and thus it takes longer to enter the blood stream.
You are doing the right thing by avoiding refined sugar and juice (almost the same) but make sure you avoid high fructose corn syrup too (the most evil of all) and refined white flour (your body processes this almost as easily as refined sugar).
If you are under your calories (especially if you're exercising and burning the glucose in your blood and the extra stored in your liver), your body won't store anything as fat and in fact will go get fat to use for the extra calories it needs to do essential tasks like breathing or pumping blood. Funny how that works.
A great book (almost a booklet) that was just given to me is "Food Rules" by Michael Pollan. He boils all 65 very simple rules down to 7 words.
"Eat Food. Not a Lot. Mostly Plants."
His other books, "The Omnivore's Dilema" and "In Defense of Food." are also very educational.0 -
Yeah, what mrcook said!!!
Also look at what kinds of fruits you are eating. Bananas and pineapples have LOTS and LOTS of sugar. Strawberries are great, blueberries are AWESOME!
For me, it pretty much doesn't matter what I eat. I go over on my sugar everyday but it's because of blueberries now instead of cake.0 -
Thanx!!! I appreciate all the feed back. I definitly avoid high fructose corn syrup, I am a big label reader. I also avoid white flour, pretty much most wheat based products.
As far as fruit I eat apples, grapes, and a lot of berries.
Thanx again! :happy:0 -
I'm glad you asked this, I was wondering the same thing recently!0
