That is awesome. I also have Bipolar and know exactly what you are going through. I did exactly what you did and now that is how I push through my down days. Keep it up and you will find it gets easier, at least it has for me.

Wow. I really didn't expect so many comments but I thank everyone who took the time to send me their support. As I said before, being depressed can make me treat myself poorly and minimize my accomplishments. When so many people reenforce those accomplishments it makes it easier for my brain to accept.

I am sure I will have my share of bad days but I try to take things one day at a time and I am trying to learn to recognize each victory, big or small. Thanks again for your support, it is much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing. Even on a good day, it can be tough. Keep going and hopefully those days will get easier to work through. I am very happy for you!!
  • OMG! Great job! I know all too well how difficult it can be to get going when suffering from Bipolar disorder. I was diagnosed about 7 years ago and it has been tough. But I'm So SO proud of you for looking at it that way, really! You are awesome and I'm rooting for you all the way! You can do this!
  • Thanks for being brave enough to talk about your illness openly. I wish I were so brave. I'm not bipolar, but I suffer from a related condition. Let's just leave it that. Unfortunately, we live in a society that treats people with mental illness in an undignified way. I certainly don't feel strong enough to give people more ammo to belittle me.

I completely understand how hard it is to get motivation at times. Kudos to you for recognizing your accomplishment and using it as a building block for more success. That's the key and often the hardest thing to do.

Wow, really well put. And congrats to the original poster as well. Both of you, pat yourselves on the back.

That is a fantastic NSV! And I have moments of depression myself so I definitely know how hard it is to overcome it when you are in that "screw it all" moment. It takes a whole lot of inner will that a lot of people can not understand.

Just doing is huge! Be proud of that. They say it takes 30 days for something to become habit. Keep doing what you're doing and before you know it it's a habit.

Just thought I would do a quick update since so many of you gave such positive feedback. I am feeling much better this afternoon and I just finished burning another 300 calories on the exercise bike. I think the earlier exercise and hearing from all of you made a big impact.

To anyone else who tends to pull themselves inward when they are depressed, try doing the opposite of what your mind is telling you to do. It wants to keep you in the dark and punish yourself. Seek out company and share something of yourself. It doesn't have to be anything huge but it does help to break free a bit by making a conscious choice. It won't solve everything for you or banish the depression but it does give you a tool to use when not much else is available to you.

  • You are a freakin' Rock Star!!! I'm so proud of you - overcoming is so empowering! Post it every time!! And share how the exercise helps you recover from the periods of depression - if it does at all. Peace!

Way to go doll! I think it's wonderful that you put it out there to to the universe and it's even better than you took control of it.

    Awesome! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

I've struggled with depression so I can relate to that side of it. Yep - hard to get out of bed before noon.

Good for you for trusting that more hopeful side of you.!
  • You should be proud of yourself, every exercise session is one step closer to your goal, well done!

...This has been a huge accomplishment for me. Thanks for letting me share.

Thank YOU for sharing with us! It's wonderful that you are able to push through your depression and focus on the positive. That's a huge challenge. When you're stuck down there, it can be so hard to remember there's a bright side waiting for you on the other end, but it's definately there and it sounds like you may already be on your way. I'll think good thoughts for you!

Wonderful job! Plus, the endorphin we get from exercising probably really helps with the depression. Keep it up!
